and that's why the split is guaranteed money. people like us are looking for this sort of news all the time, and so we buy in BEFORE the split. dumb money finds out and buys AFTER the split, pumping the stock higher. we find out about battery day and buy long BEFORE it, and we ride the hype momentum and we sell BEFORE battery day even happens. dumb money buys probably just before battery day and holds through it, and even if the news is good it still dumps and they wonder why and lose all this money, not knowing the expectations were set incredibly high and already priced in during the hype wave leading up to the event. because they're dumb.

don't be dumb money. instead, learn their psychology and predictable reactions to things and take advantage of them.

Um, no.

Compare these maps, attend to the size of all of the components. Consider the FAGMAN relationship with everything else. Recognize FAGMAN+ only contributes some 10-15% of our GDP despite being trillion dollar companies.

So much of the rally up was controlled using the weight of these equities ALONE. They singularly moved the whole fucking market up in their wake. Their market caps have extended in such a fashion I wonder if there's even a historical precedence to model this shit against.

Once a vaccine hits, all that mcap is going to deflate, and there's a big fucking hurt range, and a lot of people could find themselves tied up in losses for years. Other sectors are going to offer better returns with less risk. But there's so much unappealing risk that goes in hand with what exists as the value market right now...

learn how to take advantage of the dumb money. you're already here on /smg/, you're probably already educated or educating yourself on finance and financial history and stock trading strategies and looking at charts all the time. reading financial news on a regular basis and keeping up with world events and how they effect the stock market. understanding the FED. if so you're already most of the way there in all honesty. like 99% of people have no clue and at best end up as gamblers. just don't feel too bad for them when you're buying in early, selling near the top before the big selloff, and leaving them holding the bags. because you know shit they don't.

The virus did its damage. A vaccine, which is unlikely for a respiratory RNA virus, only delays continued pain. The Fed's response and the entry of a new generation of traders/investors is going to keep pumping tech megacaps unless they are physically broken apart.
We are seeing the 2008-2020 "bull market" that super concentrated wealth and value into a handful of companies just in an accelerated form now. The Fed printed us through a tech rotation.

personally right now i just focus on avoiding people as much as possible, staying inside/around my yard as much as possible, and whenever i go out for groceries or to get take out which i minimize i always wear a mask and gloves, and wash my hands religiously. i also drink a glass of orange juice every day for the vitamin C (how effective that is idk but it's something at least). just doing the best i can to avoid it if at all possible. thank God i have the means to do this currently and only go into work twice a week where there are few people around now anyways.

you'll very likely get a better price buying before the split rather than after, because there's a very high chance as soon as the split happens a lot of dumb money is going to flood in which will bid the price up. ideally you want to be in before the pump not after, but you can likely make money either way, i'd just say the probability is high that you'd miss out on gains by buying in later. up to you though. price moves in waves either way im sure there will also be ups and downs along the way but the general direction will be up.

if you do get into TSLA i highly recommend you hold and sell a couple of days before battery day (sept 22) because i expect a huge selloff then unless elon somehow manages to exceed the already stellar expectations that are going to be priced in all the way leading up to it. that's my plan at least, again your money you can do what you want.

Saved around $26k a year by living cheap, not owning a car and not doing anything other than work. Sure it was depressing as hell especially since I was so young, but it's all about sacrificing shit for better shit. new traders are too scared to buy into shit with good fundamentals because they see they're at or almost at ATHs. Outside of retarded shit like Zoom, a lot of tech are still reasonably valued considering they grow MUCH faster than traditional sector (even AMD's 100+ PE ratio is sort of reasonable when you consider they continue to have free reign against Intel for the next 4 years).

paper trading is supposed to be about developing a strategy and using it in real time without knowing the future and seeing how well it actually performs. it's also to learn how your platform works and how to place orders and do all that sort of stuff.

the emotions come in with real money but that's why you start with small money first. you learn with that and if successful you slowly increase your risk tolerance as you gain experience. the reason why over 90% of traders blow up their accounts is because they risk too much too soon when they have fuck-all for experience. experience has to be earned and if you risk everything on your first trade then you will have no money and literally can't even play the game anymore. "survive to trade another day" as the saying goes. a traders first job should always be capital preservation, your first step is to just break even, honestly. most people can't even accomplish that, see: the guy down 30% already. only once you can protect your capital can you even begin to consider actually making money.

remember that plenty of people have made 1 million only to then lose 2 million afterwards. there's no point if you give it all back and then some. jared on livetraders has a "when will the insanity stop?" segment he's been doing pretty regularly in his videos on this, watch some of them sometime to know what i mean. but again, i like the dumb money gamblers, they are who i profit off of the most. you have to work hard to educate yourself and practice so you git gud and take advantage of dumb money instead of being dumb money. patience is a virtue so few people have nowadays.

I never said STEM is a trade. I'm saying that the current round of advice boomers are giving younger generations now is this horse shit. They realized that there are no STEM jobs because the kid who served them a Vente Caramel Mochiatto at Starbucks holds a degree in CompSci. They spent their whole lives giving bad "make it" advice based off their misconceptions of the job markets that they're disconnected from.

They refuse to admit that getting a good paying job in a vast majority of cases is not about hard work, but about being in the right place at the right time. They always chalk it up to "they didn't work as hard as me that's why they have no money."

i can agree with that. i'd also say that getting a good paying job is about putting in the effort instead of expecting everything to be handed to you from the get-go. i started off as a temp, getting my foot into a major corporation on the bottom as a test operator. over the years i worked my way up and learned a bunch of stuff working for different groups in the company and educating myself in my free time, eventually worked my way up to a tech and then got a permanent position and just keep it growing from there. i initially started out only making $30k/year with no health benefits. now i have a stellar resume and lots of great references and years of experience from a highly lauded multinational semiconductor corp. after this corona mess is over i'll likely leave and find a better job elsewhere and get paid a lot more, too.

but all of this took a lot of hard work and dedication, well beyond that of what college gave me. the "soft skills" i developed with learning how "the system" works and how to deal with people socially in the workplace was also a crucial lesson to learn, something lost on a lot of these zoomers. i guess my main point is that it's not just the degree it's the person behind it that makes all the difference. tech just has a shitload of opportunities especially now in WFH covid era. but literally a degree is just the most basic qualifying factor in regards to whether you get a good job or not, know what i mean? that's all im saying. even trades are the same way, they're incredibly difficult and physically exhausting, i did it for a year and eventually quit and went back to school, best decision i ever made. great learning experience though.

It's not misleading. This is EXACTLY what I mean, I kinda don't understand how you do t see that you're falling into the mindset of the person I outlined in 2016. An oversaturated market where resumes are filtered out by algorithms en masse and given to HR Stacy (who doesn't understand a thing about STEM but looks pretty enough for the boss to keep around) to review and determine who should and shouldn't be forwarded to the hiring manager, personal merit is utterly meaningless. You're not understanding my point and this is goalpost moving; the initial advice given of "get STEM" lead to an abundance of meaningless STEM degrees. Employers aren't going to know the difference just because you can pass a fizzbuzz; regardless of how good your skills in the field are, you will have difficulty finding a job and have to rely on luck.

In admitting that degrees don't really matter because they're handed out like candy, you're unintentionally agreeing with my point. Jobs are flooded with resumes literally from around the world (especially India, for CompSci jobs), you think it doesn't take luck to get a position given the ratio of jobs openings for degree holders?

FUD STEM all you want but the fact remains that if you're a competent engineer/dev in an in demand niche you can bid up your salary to ridiculously high levels by getting multiple offers and bidding yourself up (in the US at least). If you're long leveraged tech you should realize why this is the case.

You have to actually be competent though, the degree alone is not a free pass.

i don't think a degree qualifies you to be something beyond the most basic of qualifications for it. what matters is what you have done. i also don't think it's about luck, it's more about being willing to take a lesser position and work your way up and proving yourself to get to where you want to be, instead of expecting to be given everything right out of college with no experience when you've never done anything of merit yet. it's what we call "entitlement", big problem with this new generation of zoomers.

like i said: yes there are an overabundance of STEM degrees, but not all STEM degree holders are created equal. basically a degree is a piece of paper that lets you even begin to get into that career in the first place. after that you actually have to prove yourself in the real world, which a lot of people aren't capable of because they have no work ethic. you also have to learn the system and how to take advantage of it instead of letting it take advantage of you (or at least minimize that as much as you can). you can't just think because you work hard that you will be rewarded, it doesn't work that way similar to how just because a company has good fundamentals doesn't automatically mean it will go up in value.

basically it's more complicated than simply having a STEM degree or not having one, is my point. a degree is just the most basic qualification to having an engineering job, there are plenty of other barriers you need to get through to be successful, that's why that chart is misleading.

You think all the Starbucks barristas with degrees aren't taking lower positions and trying to work their way up? You think someone with a degree in CompSci will look at a level 1 helpdesk position and say "no, I'm worth more than that" and then end up instead taking the job at Dick's Sporting Goods because they want to? You think resume sorting algorithms are going to know the difference between you and the hundreds of other applicants when lying on your resume is the standard?

Challenge your misconceptions. What you're outlining right now is luck, but you're unable to put the pieces together to understand that. Review the data I provided in the graphs above and ask yourself if there is perhaps a misconception you are holding. You're not really wrong, as it does make your chances better to actually be competent; but you also aren't right because employers don't have the time or resources to dig through piles of shit to find the hidden gem. Then you have other factors such as boomer hiring managers who don't even know how to use Excel but are in charge for the final decision on who gets the Data Analyst role, affirmative action, foreign candidates who will work for chump change, etc.

All this aside, I'd still like to point out that this is still goalpost moving and really just confirms my initial point anyway. To review:

>Anon tells other Anon to just get a degree in STEM, pull himself by the bootstraps, and then try stocks
>I retort that his advice is outdated, it was commonly used in the early to mid 2010's and lead to an oversaturation of STEM as impressionable millenials took the advice to heart
>Now that the fields are oversaturated, the same people who gave this advice are historically revising it to include footnotes and saying STEM isn't worth getting into unless you're competent (not really true either, many people in STEM positions aren't even qualified for it but know how to exert charisma in interviews; a rarity for STEM autists)

My opinion on TSLA is as follows: Elon boy has some jew frens in one of banks/funds, he's been painting """profits""" for 4 Qs through credits on unsold cars but its gonna give him green light to SnP. Jew frens know this so theyll be boosting TSLA as much as possible piling it on their balance sheets till inclusion. believe what you want, anon. i prefer to take personal responsibility for my life instead of playing the victim card all the time. continue wallowing in self pity i guess, i'll keep making money and moving up in my career. a career i've made many many sacrifices for to achieve. if you want to talk about luck i'd say it's more about being lucky to have my personality and my intelligence in the first place which not everyone is gifted with (many smart people are lazy, many hard working people are stupid). that i could agree with to a certain degree. also i'm a white straight male who is 6' tall, i guess that could also be construed as luck?

just sounds like most kids these days want to blame everyone else for their problems because they don't want to work hard, but YMMV. how many people working at Dick's Sporting Goods or Starbucks do you think are still actively working on improving themselves instead of just dissolving into self-pity with a victim complex? cause i'd bet very few.

The mentality of "I worked hard and it worked for me, so everyone else must be doing something wrong" is one you'll find with almost anyone who's made it. It's very damaging to ones ego to admit that others may be working just as hard or even harder than them and are still working the entry level job to "get their foot in the door" for years without process. People must just take shitty foot soldier jobs because they're lazy, entitled, and play the victim card; not because of various factors outside of their control working as hurdles towards their career advancements. There's no way someone can work hard, make sacrifices, build their resumes, and continue to grow their skillset outside of school and STILL not succeed, because if such a person existed it would shatter my perception of myself...

i mean we're talking in abstracts and generalities here, so ultimately this conversation is kinda pointless at the end of the day. it's hard to know who's really getting unlucky and who's actually lazy/entitled on an individual basis. the only point i was trying to make to you at the end of the day was that just having an engineering degree doesn't entitle you to being an engineer, you have to work hard and prove yourself and accomplish things over years. and EVEN THEN you might still be unsuccessful, because life isn't fair. also the Matthew Effect exists. luck is a component but it's probably one of the smaller ones in the grand scheme of things.

i distinctly disagree with the point of "getting a good paying job in a VAST MAJORITY OF CASES is not about hard work", because it is about that a vast majority of the time. sometimes good people get fucked because life isn't fair, that's life, but by and large i'd say it's very hard to not be successful if you continue to work hard and improve yourself and keep moving forward. the more things you succeed at the more opportunities will be given to you, which if you succeed at them will grant you even more opportunities, and so on. the more things you fail at, the fewer opportunities will be given, and so on. the Matthew Effect.

you can't just say "yeah most people are just lucky it's not about hard work", when in reality the luck is created through success, so to speak. you just interpret it as luck when in reality it's a series of successes that lead to greater opportunities vs. other people who fail and are given fewer and fewer opportunities until they ultimately become losers who can't progress no matter what they do. at the end of the day it still comes down to what you are able to accomplish in life building upon itself.

Catch 22: If printed money just goes into saving investments, it doesn't actually drive economic growth. You have to amp up the money printing to compensate. That is why QE had to be "infinite" this time while it was hard capped in 2009. The longer this goes on, the more "pooled" money there is in equities. This has the benefit of inflating equities and causing lagging inflation in the economy. Destroys the middle class (health care, education, real estate costs) and amplifies wealth inequalities
If money velocity reverses, all that pooled money gets dumped into the economy and now everything gets hit by inflation.

If you got a good job, making enough to cover your bills + extra, no bullshit nor stress to deal with during said job why the hell wouldn't you just stay where you were at and just ride it out till you retired?. Sure you could move on to another job and make more but you'd also get more stress and bullshit tossed at you as well plus dealing with paperwork out the ass most likely as a bonus. Looks to me the lower you can get your stress and bullshit level the happier and longer you'll live..

Consistently profitable at lower prices. New pricing and future outlook for gold and silver mean it just gets that much more profitable. Currently P/E ratio of 21 at 1,800 gold. Q3 earnings will be tremendous. Same for Barrick Gold. As soon as RH guys get a whiff of miners, shit will explode, and deservedly. Most undervalued sector with the rosiest future outlook.
