I'm a huge XRP holder but I don't believe in this "switch" idea everyone is throwing around. XRP is a pretty long hold in my mind. Ripple is certainly well positioned in the industry at large but this idea that the XRP token value will do %10000 overnight is kind of crazy

The gold thing is a little weird. We're in a time where a "gold standard" doesn't have to be actual gold. Any sort of set value that the fed has to obey is as good as gold. If you look for videos of her she calls it a "back to the future gold standard".
So there are options. Physical gold, digital gold, etc.

It's won't be pegged to gold, it will be pegged to the world economy. All global settlements will ultimately be run through Corda utilizing XRP. Flipping the switch refers to a coordinated event by central banks to begin adoption of this technology. Dates are a meme, but the happening is not.

XRP is settlement layer though with almost real time transactions. I don't think the pressure for a high value token is as real as some think. People say low token value exposes large transfers to slippage but I don't know. Maybe.

ODL operates through instantaneous buy/sells. If it's the global settlement layer, the USD amount moving will be massive, thus leading to the slippage. I think it's clear though that a standard settlement token will be needed for ISO20022 to come to fruition. This all assumes XRP is the chosen one, of course.

The biggest thing that everyone is waiting for is clarity from the SEC to determine if this is a currency or a security. Currently, like all crypto, its a security in the eyes of congress. There are elements that are trying to change that but these guys are far too old to move very quickly on large changes like this. That's the switch that everyone is waitng for to be flipped. XRP needs to be a currency in the eyes of the law in order to perform its duties. If clarity comes and it is made very clear that this is a security, then Ripple will have to take their product elsewhere. If that happens, there is still possibility for additional value to be added to XRP as a source of utility. Regardless of schizos and twitter normies, It makes sense to continue to hodl since it still is a pretty good product that Ripple will continue to attempt to utilize in their own interest.
