it's better than stablecoins (e.g. USDC) that actually do what tether claims to do (1-to-1 USD collateralization) because it's designed to track the price of multiple currencies, and eventually a basket of non-monetary commodities (price of oil, gold, whatever...) to arrive at a more stable value than any currency ever has. think about why there's a stock/crypto/metals bubble right now: fed is making the USD depreciate so quickly that it's better to put at least some of your money in low-interest investments as a hedge. a future-proof stablecoin needs to therefore not simply track a supposedly "stable" fiat currency that can go through valuation shocks at any time.
importantly it will do all of the above in a fully decentralized way hence be impervious to govt regulation.
the most comparable coins are maker (which collateralizes against ether in a decentralized way but has basically the same weak point) and libra (which is a very similar project but had all its major partners drop out whenever ever major economy said "no fucking way will we allow facebook to do this").

imo you have plenty of time. increased liquidity from new exchanges doesn't begin until at least four weeks from now, mainnet probably won't come out until q1 2021 at least and the team has openly said mainnet doesn't === immediate US exchange listings, they are deliberately timing it to maximize investor return.
