was bored so i took this screenshot of the standard deviation channel on KODK since you guys were so enamored with it today. thought you might find it interesting, using 5 days worth of data. the fat middle line is the linear regression trendline and each line going away from it is +/- 1 standard deviation from the mean.

but hey, it's just tea leaves, right? lmao. i still don't like fucking around with meme stocks and prefer to trade real companies like AMD but just some food for thought since it sounds like some of you guys lost money today FOMO'ing in. for reference, 99.9% of the data should be below that red line which is 4 SD. maybe i'll start gambling a bit on these if they get THAT overextended though, lmao.

might short WKHS in all honesty but i don't know shit about the story and it at least has a bit more name recognition to me. that's still up above 4 SD.

95% of the data should be within 2 SD (the yellow line) so notice how it's often a great place to buy or sell. it tends to work better with stocks that aren't like shitcoins and are more normal in their price distributions or at least are solid companies that aren't going to take off in one direction and never return. im still experimenting with it though but it's pretty interesting and can be looked at on any time frame. i'd say the longer the time frame the longer you're probably looking to hold it before it returns to the mean which is where you'd probably want to exit your position or at least take some profits.

i figure the shorter the time frame the less time you plan on holding on to it for, and vice versa. imagine if you bought the dip through the corona crash for example. or /ES futures contracts after the rollover period in march? it all depends on your timeframe though. it took like 2 months to do its mean regression finally but you could have bought at the yellow and orange lines (didn't quite get to the red line though but you'd just buy more there too).

Because the management is retarded. They couldn't say shit like others do "no guidance can be given due to pandemic" instead they decided to say "lmao we think our revenue is going down like 15%, we ain't earning shit here" and then those retards decided to tell everyone they think data-centers market is saturated and also how other companies (like MU or Koreans) come and take their market share with their bits in the market that WDC operates when those companies have any downfalls in their own respective markets that WDC does not operate in.
Also, fuck HDD, nobody buys those and WDC has a fucking big retail segment.
ALSO, this fucking company is still making and selling MP3 players. That's right fucking MP3 players. Who buys those? I'll tell you who. NOBODY DOES.
These faggots paid like 19 billion for SanDisk to make fucking memory cards (hello 2005, but okay, some people actually use those in their Nintendos) and MP3 PLAYERS. They obviously overpaid as hell for that one and now have more goodwill on their balance sheet than their market cap is worth right now. One of the reasons why they have a huge pile of debt and are not going to pay any dividends for any foreseeable future.
Oh, they are also investing in a USB Flash drive factory in Japan. You know, in the era when you can drop basically any file instantly into your Google Drive or something. Surely that's going to experience MASSIVE demand pull from all sides possible.
Anyway, at this price it kinda looks like it's going to bottom out. I'm planning to average down at $32 for this pile of shit of a stock.

it's not a tool i created, it's just multiples of the Standard Deviation Channel in ToS and i made it look a little prettier with color coding. also standard deviation is just statistics but it's an interesting concept. learned about it from here and have been experimenting with it successfully on AMD this week, if it works out i'll continue to increase how big of a position size i take at each level: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNdpkHGhn_E

They surely did, much like STX dropped after earnings (kinda funny how they still manage to be profitable and keep a better face than WDC, although they are pretty much only in the dying HDD market). Retarded financial analysts think WDC, MU and STX are one of a kind. But the CFO of MU just recently said on some conference that yeah there are headwinds in this quarter reaffirming the bad guidance by WDC.
MU is kinda cool at $44, but I think it's a good stock for swing trading (really volatile all the time) and is not a good stock as a long-term investment due to complete lack of shareholder returns.

sounds good anon, hope it works out for you. that's 5 days worth of data so you're probably looking at a swing trade off of it at most. obviously it helps to have more DD behind your ideas, the standard deviations just tells you how far away from the average price the stock is trading at. theoretically the further away it is from the mean the higher the likelihood that it will reverse. it should help a lot if you scale in and out though, or just trade in the direction of the trend, but there are plenty of instances i've seen where you could literally just buy/short through the SD levels and hold until it returns to the mean. it probably also works better with a long bias since it's basically just a strategic form of dip buying using statistics at that point.

see the 5 D 5m? that means 5 days with candles that each represent 5 minutes worth of trading. so, the past 5 days + the current day, so 6 days total while still during market hours.

like i said i think it's better to look for good solid companies that aren't low float penny stock meme shit, but i just thought it was interesting to see the levels on it. theoretically if you had been shorting some at each of those levels you would be making bank right now. but penny stocks can do crazy things instead of being more normative so who knows.

the point is that considering the past 5 days of data, today's values are way outside of the majority of the data set. like if you had 1000 people, 1 person would be beyond that red line, 4 standard deviations, so it's incredibly rare compared to the rest of the data set, an extreme outlier. how you interpret and/or trade extreme outliers in stocks is up to you.

Obviously, the tool is called Standard Deviation Channel, the 1.0 means it's drawing channel lines 1 SD above and below the average (what average? It's sloped, so some kind of MA?), but the rest means nothing to me.

My concern is how your SD is being calculated. It looks like it's constant (same size at all points on the graph), but that doesn't make sense with your changing average line.

It really does get easier as you get more money, anons. Unless you're trying to put money in and forget about it for 10 years, or are literally trying to become a millionaire ASAP, it does get easier. You can live a very comfy life being financially independent with under 100k/yr (depending on your cost of living.)

Really, I think there are only a few big goal posts.

>$100-> $1k
It's very hard but it can be done. You just have to be cautious and not make insane bets on options. Lots of trades will have to be made, though.

>$1k -> $10k
By far, probably the hardest leap. You're at the point where big plays through options can be made to increase gains exponentially, but you have to be incredibly careful because losses here can hurt more than $100->$1,000 due to the small amounts you have. Medium-High risks for Low-Medium rewards.

>$10k -> $100k
Assuming you're not bleeding money because you got lucky off of options (very early on) and continued to gamble, you're most likely set. Once again, it depends on where you live (sorry NY/CA bros) but there's enough capital here for you to live a very modest life if you aren't in crippling debt. Just make a ton of low-risk low-reward plays (because you have that kind of money) and shoot for $1,000-$1,500 in gains a week. Might be time consuming but it's better than being a wage cuck. Assuming you do don't blow it all on fancy cars, giant houses, etc, you could definitely be set for a long time. Take $80k and I don't see why you couldn't turn it into $500k over the course of a few years. At some point you'll reach the end game of just letting your stocks make passive income for you. Whether that's through funds or divvies, I think you can make it.

Yes it's nowhere near as nice as turning $3k into $120k over night, but that's not feasible. You have to be lucky to do that. Materialism and greed are bad. Fight your own human nature, reach financial independence and do what YOU want to do. You'll make it, anon.

If you've got $80k, you can easily throw a few hundred at smart educated calls low-risk calls. Stuff you know that will likely go up a few percentages. You have to be smart but you will make money, even if it's only like $20. Losing $500 in a week is feels much better when you have $80k and not $800.

>>21595472
Try throwing $3k at a play when you have $5k. Try doing it again when you have 30k.

Once a certain threshold is reached, you're literally too big to fail. It's exponential.

Have $5,000? 5% of that is $250. You aren't going to make serious money with $250 unless you get really lucky.

5% of $50,000? That's $2,500. Even a super safe call that barely breaks even will probably make more than what $250 would make in the best possible scenario.

In general, I think that would all fall under $100k -> $1M

Personally, this is my take: If I have $500k, I'm probably going to take at least $400k and put it into growth stocks or into bank accounts. $100k? That's a lot of capital. You'll have many opportunities to make smaller plays that can double.

Think there's an opportunity to double your money? Never ever play it all. Try to double like $3k or something. It's small comparatively, but it's still money. Just don't get greedy and take the small wins and losses over big wins and losses.

Thanks! So having read through that, I'm pretty sure my concerns are justified. Basically, your channel looks like it has predictive power, but it really only describes the candles that have already happened. And yes, that's broadly true of any statistics, but here I think it's a larger problem than usual.

First, it's centered on the linear regression trendline. That will, just from the way it's calculated, draw a nice straight line right through whatever data you give it. But depending on the points included, the slope of the line will vary significantly. Your linear regression could give you different predictions depending on whether you're looking at the last week, the last month, or the last year, etc. Those predictions could very plausibly be contradicting each other - what tells you to favor one time scale over another?

From there, you add in the SD channels. These are based on the entire set of data, so by definition, mathematically, anything that appears above them is going to be coming down shortly afterwards. If it hadn't, the trendline would have been steeper and the channel wider, because those values have been calculated specifically to do just that.

Not trying to be negative, but I think it's an important point.

also thanks for pointing this out. basically by default it calculates using the entirety of the data set. but if you set it to "no" then you can set how many bars it calculates by. scalped a little at the end of the day here and it was actually pretty neat, also tripled the default value. might have to experiment with this as well for scalping, could be cool.

i mentioned this already, it's not really a concern it's just a question of what time frame you're working on.

>>21592982
>but it's pretty interesting and can be looked at on any time frame. i'd say the longer the time frame the longer you're probably looking to hold it before it returns to the mean which is where you'd probably want to exit your position or at least take some profit

like if you're trading it on 1 day worth of data you're probably taking profits on the order of minutes, more data likely means more time that you're planning on holding like hours or days or months or years. like the SPY graph, you'd be holding for like 2 months before it fully regressed to the mean. you could also potentially use multiple time frame analysis in your trades as well which could help back your trading choices.

so it's not really a big deal it's just that you should choose a data set that fits the time frame you plan on trading within, and there is a higher chance of taking trades that go with the trend (slope of the mean) than against it, but it's possible to take extreme values from either direction theoretically. probably also works best by scaling in and out of positions to de-risk yourself when possible, depends how risky/greedy you want to be, and having FA back you up too (this is a good company so im not gonna short the top values and im gonna buy the extreme dips) should also help.
