It has a wider standard deviation than the stock market but like when shit hit that fan in 2008-9, my gold went up faster than my stocks recovered and if I was at retirement age that would have made a big difference. It will take the destabilization of a major currency. The gold price already pumped quite a bit and we may even see some 2.2 if the Eurodollar hits 1.25 or so.
