It allows people to swap their tokens on the ERC-20 chain to whatever other ERC-20 they want. The other competitors like Uniswap, Bancor, and IDEX. They are bigger sure, but I hold KNC because it is integrated into a bunch of wallets and relationships that I care about. Uniswap doesn't have a token, Bancor got hacked a while back, and I haven't done due diligence on IDEX.

Maker - MakerDao is the central bank of Ethereum. It is the decentralized version of the Fed in the USA, because works something like a loan bank. You put in your collateral for a loan at a fraction of what you put in. Other DeFi lending protocols like this include Aave and Compound, but the hexagon names and hedge funds are in COMP and MKR.

If you really want to make money, with a 100% certainty you really have to look at the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance and research every single person involved over the 100's of projects and enteprise Fortune 500 companies integrations that are coming around.

I would strongly recommend looking at the stock to flow model of bitcoin and understand that we're going to overshoot the 100k by a long shot this time.

Enterprise Ethereum will be run on Ethereum 2.0 because the gas fees and txn fees will be magnitudes cheaper than Ethereum 1.0.
