A few really cucked States (like Tennessee and Minnesota) have ordinary sales taxes on metals. If the US economy actually recovered inflation would skyrocket unless they pump interest rates 1970s style.

Arguably, for gold there is, if central banks are prepared to burn their gold reserves to keep the price down. But you could also argue that this would only make it worse, since now the market tries to price gold vs a hypothetical gold standard with known govt gold holdings, so if those holdings dropped the price would have to go even higher.
