Let me pc post brb

1. ShutDown BitCoin Client
2. Find your wallet location (%APPDATA%\Bitcoin) OR for example : C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Roaming\Bitcoin
3. Backup, verify, then delete that wallet.dat file
4. Paste your other wallet.dat file into the folder.
5. Open BitCoin Client , blocks get checked and updated, and you should see your amount.

Are you using windows? The sys 32 file directory interferes with the .dat file due to sys 32 is a stationary file and the .dat file is roaming. If you want to use the file youll need to delete sys 32.

It wont necessarily have overwritten to the same physical space on the HDD.

Basics of data storage - you don't really delete things you just remove their registry, they still exist.

If it found a file with the same name and overwrote it chances are it just deleted it rather then stored it in the same physical disk location. You may still be able to use data recovery tools but what you need to do is stop fucking about with it, take the hard drive out, clone it, then use some good data recovery tools, not that recuva horseshit. Or failing that actually take it to an expert who knows what the fuck they are doing. Tell them the value of what's potentially on there and that you will give them a small cut provided they let you observe the process.
