You have a mental block with books as a medium. I bet you've read web articles that are as long as a book without realizing it, and understand why those are necessary.
It's a bit embarrassing how slow books as a medium have been to bring their presentation to modern Internet standards, and I blame this for how they've been left for boomers. You grew up with cumbersome paper boxes that required you to move away from your computer and ignored them because of that.
Even with e-books you often have black text on white and discrete page-flipping, and have to jump through hoops to make them scroll like a webpage. But if you do some tweaking in Calibre you'll figure out books are just another webpage you can read and unlock centuries of knowledge and storytelling.

>you'll figure out books are just another webpage
books really hit different.

Books have a story , some kind of lesson to be learned often. some random ass webpage is good for looking up facts and information, the types of books that are now useless thanks to the internet. HAving a book on something like rocket science is basicly useless nowadays.

but a story... man that shit hits different in book form you don't even know, if you do your best and watch a good movie it can have a similar effect. Same for music.

The point is you have to really think with music, many instrumental pieces have amazing stories in them that aren't obscured by the lyrics.

Music with lyrics often discredits the instrumentals (but also often they don't and are a kind of poetry)

Poetry has great stories too.
Movies can be great, a recent movie I watched that was amazing was the revenant, honestly one of the best movies I watched in a long time.

Consuming media is not bad in and of itself, you have to choose the rights ones,

the tabloid or the book
hollywood blockbuster or the art film
the pop album or the miles davis album

of course this shit is not black and white, you have shitty art films/books and jazz/classical/ambient/whatever albums albums(not miles davis albums , fucking love miles)
but also great (ok not tabloids) blockbusters and pop albums.

You just have to make a case by case choice on what you're consuming and consume it all to power that autism you got. Youre on 4chan youre a fucking autist use that superpower to become the smartest - non arrogant motherfucker you know and learn to listen , learn to read.

when you talk you are only repeating what you know but when listen you may learn something new

Kinda. The important thing is to read only material that goes in depth on the topics you need for whatever you're working on. You're not going to be able to absorb everything you hear or read on first exposure. That's not how long-term potentiation works lol. You need to read because those are going to be the most refined and structured representations of complex topic matters. Some things must be shown, welding for instance. But when it comes to business and analyzing markets its absolutely necessary. Don't waste your time reading stupid bullshit like atlas shrugged. Thats a waste of your precious time and has no long term positive yield in relation to your net worth.. Studying philosophy at least with regards to formal logic and using those sorts of topics is immediately transferable to business. Not drivel and propaganda though. Philosophy is mental masturation but at least teaches you to reason.

And if you think you're going to get rich as fuck in this day and age without being the most charming and charismatic motherfucker on earth you'd be fucking retarded to not learn the art of data science, mathematics, and computer programming. You'll never outpace a market run off of analytics and if you think you can you're a degenerate gambler.

I bet you're a weeb or at least movie watcher.

what genre movies do you like?
I personally really love cyberpunk and dystopian settings, think anime like ghost in the shell and psycho pass.

If you are a weeb start with manga, read manga. After you read a cyberpunk manga ( if thats your preffered genre) and feel comfy try and read a cyberpunk book, slowly read page by page and when the writer describes a scene close the book , close your eyes and really envision yourself being there. Good writers describe their scenes extremely well, with things like

"When he exited the vehicle he was disdain by the awful smell the smog of the city brought with it, but as soon as he saw the massive billboards and skycrapers that feeling soon vanished, only to be reintroduced by his cab driver when he opened his mouth and said to him
"shut the fuck up faggot" "

1. Download Calibre and set up a library
2. Download epubs, there is a certain website where you can find epubs for almost any book ever made and it's not the same site where you'd download other things.
3. Look at the source code of a web page you find comfy to read and find the link to its CSS style file
4. Copy and paste CSS style into Calibre's custom CSS layout option
5. Tweak the other options until it works like a webpage, the most important by far being the smooth scrolling.
5a. If that webpage doesn't have light text on dark by default you do it manually through the font tab

You have nostalgia for physical books and that's fine. I don't. I can't stand them. The layout is awkward in that you have two pages in distinct locations for no abstract reason (just physical limitations) which you need to move your eyes between and physically flip all the time. Paperbacks and flimsy and you need to keep them open, Hardcovers are heavy and cumbersome to read in hands. You need light to read and the experience is just never as comfy as reading light text on dark in a pitch-black room.

completely disagree.

high definition video is like those highly detailed and overproduced music nowadays, why do you think lofi and bedroom productions are getting so big lately? people crave for some flaws, books are flawed that's the beaty of them they crack they tear they fold they expand and oh how great it is.

Same for music, you can only listen to so much overproduced pop before you really want to listen to some raw JDilla or something else thats just more RAW.

same with movies and photography, why do you think photographers started using old ass cameras again? not because theyre better they are flawed and the flaws are whats making them beautiful.
that being said I also make electronic music, yes it's great to have a DAW that makes perfectly timed music for me , yes I can listen to very well produced techno for hours on end and yes I can make that and have fun. but sometimes I just want to plug in my inherently flawed guitar and just play without a click track and then play in some drums and other things too, just... so its not all that perfect.

I can't live without it. Both for fiction and non fiction.
I read both to learn, grow, get new perspectives, wisdom, or even just beautiful prose etc.
It's an absolute blessing for me to be able to mark a sentence or whole paragraph or anything in between yellow in 1 sec. That way, if I ever return to the book I basically have a yellow summary of all the best parts condensed. It ha saldo saved me numerous times when I wanted to look up something in a book months or years later with no idea where it was exsctly; now I only have to go through the yellow marked bits instead of combing through the whole book.
I even do this in fiction because good fiction is full of wisdom that I might want to remember or get back to later and it takes a literal second to mark something that I this is worth it.
Writing notes is equally usefully, especially when reading non-fiction, where for example something gives me an idea of my own, or if I disagree with something I can write that down quickly to get my thoughts straight and get a bearing on where I'm at regarding the opinion of the author.
Marking and note taking are absolutely vital to how I read books. It becomes much more engaging. And you learn best and remember best by engaging with stuff.

It's a similar situation with people who look for high-fidelity flat spectrum headphones vs people who listen to fucking vinyl analog sound "for the texture" which is objectively a distortion of the original recording. I'm solidly in the former camp for all such cases I can recall.

>It's a similar situation with people who look for high-fidelity flat spectrum headphones vs people who listen to fucking vinyl analog sound "for the texture"
this 100% shows that you have no knowledge about how audio works or any art for that matter.
That's okay you're a consumer and not an artist you dont need to know.

"high fidelity flat spectrum headphones" vs "analog texture"

Flat headphones are literally for meant for the studio, these will give you the most true sound and are open-backed. These are not meant for listening, they are meant for mixing and for live vocals. for vocal tracking or instrument tracking more often than not you use closed back headphones.

just because they're expensive =/= better quality or "high fidelity". This reminds me of one of my friends that bought some 400 ohm headphones and told me they where shit , yeah first of all. those are flat , second of all you forgot the pre-amp.

Actually vinyl more often than not has the higher fidelity because it is lossless, now some CDs do have lossless compressed files on them so theyre pretty much the same quality.

that being said vinyl is an experience having to put on a vinyl and just that vinyl instead of clicking through song after song on spotify has a certain beauty to it , call it hipster or whatever you want, but the beauty is in the flaw Its completely flawed and thats the beauty. Everyone saying its better quality is either a boomer where it held true, cassettes had shittier quality. or dont know wtf theyre talking about.

That being said cassettes are making a comeback , I love them It's fun to buy a casette and pop it in , the texture it brings after a certain amount of plays is lovely. I think you can really use this in artistic ways.

I know we are talking on a biz board which is mostly crypto thus IT and IT mostly ironed out the analog flaws, but thats the point, we loved those flaws thats what made them special.

I still listen to spotify on the daily tho

Don't bother buying this one. It's really not that great, but ... if you can download it from the internet there are one or two chapters that are a great introduction to system-trading.

If you're not retarded, reading is a far more efficient method of absorbing information.

Books also go far more in depth than some faggot on jewtube will.

It also makes you a better writer, you could learn much about how punctuation is used if you bothered to read.

If you can only buy one book, buy this one. It's somewhat expensive but most definitely the best book on the topic of technical trading. Though if you already are consistently profitable buy Reminiscences of a stock operator or one of the market wizards books.

this one's a great read to get a "winner mindset". on the topic of tradign, apart from one or two setups described, it's not necessarily a great read, but it gives you insight into the mindset of people who excel at trading.

This one's a great fucking comic. it's FUN to read. fun!? do you understand?! It's a better investment than all the political and economics bs that's being pushed on you in this thread.

there's this story of this one futures trader who specialised in Lumber. he was profitable as fuck. he knew everything there was to know about lumber futures - that is how the price react to news. but one day he was asked about green lumber (that is non-dried wood) and turned out that mother thought 20 years in his career that green lumber was wood that was painted green.

the point of this story is that you do not have to understand shit about a system to make money. you only have to know how it behaves.

telling stories about henry ford isnt, but talking about magic vibrations and pseudoscience sure is.

seriously though if you've read one self-help book you read them all and this one is just old and outdated. it's just not a good book. I am sorry. pic related on the other hand is great book despite being just as old.

you reminded me of this book. the first two or three chapters is just taleb justifying why he's not worse than other traders who made more moneys.

though for anyone planning on reading any of nicholas talebs books: he's a terrible writer and certainly a narcissist but the things he writes about are certainly interesting and worth considering.

it's never your successful friends posting the marxist bullshit.

you know what?! here's what leftism really is: it's an excuse to not live up to your potential. politics in general are, but leftists usually are the biggest losers. you want to fuck over them evil capitalists? go be successful! you wanna fuck over them evil nazis? go be successful!! make the best out of you. you will find once you are successful that all that socialist revolutionary garbage you were spouting was holding you back. it's literally designed to do so.
