It's the way boomers grew up. They're more obsessed about money since they grew up in the 80's. Most young people don't even know the joys of buying (Fully Financed) a car you saved up for by spending a few shifts extra at a job.

Well it sounds like they want what is best for you, as parents should, but it also sounds like they weren't really sure how to do that. It's unfortunate that you butted heads with your father but anything that improves your relationship with your parents is a good thing, especially if they genuinely want you to succeed. Also, assuming you live with them, when you eventually move out that time and space away from each other can ease the relationship. I'm happy for you.

They do want what’s best for me, and to see me succeed. And I know it now. Which oddly enough turns out to be a highly under rated milestone personally. It’s nice. We’ve all grown immensely since our tougher times as well. Moving out for the third time (most recent time was by choice to save $ rather then having no options) and happy to know I’ll be leaving in a good place with them. Link has legitimately changed my life. So has this board.
