I enter them on Monday ~ Wednesday. Theta burns the hardest the last two days, especially for OTM options. It depends though, I try to enter them on slight correction movements, and well OTM. So for AAPL this week that would be anything below $415, insane support at the 430+ level. The 430/425 spread is a bit risky only if tech suffers a massive correction as a whole but I've watched tech enough the past 6 months to have a good feel for the trend. Have never lost a tech spread (yet.)

All of these spreads yield anywhere from 6-15% return on the collateral. Once you win enough to get 100% of your portfolio (you can do this by making 3-4% plays instead), you can afford to write "riskier" spreads like the ones I'm doing for 6-15% return on collateral. If you're scared, you can always close them out early after grabbing 3-5% return on collateral instead. Super easy to do especially with wide bid-ask spreads on tech options, on non-popular strikes (ie. nothing like 450, 400, 500 - but $2.5, $5, $10 apart strikes with lower volume.)

The wheel is pretty much like, you get paid a premium in return for having an investment big enough to "own" 100 shares of a single stock.

The wheel is extremely appealing in volatile environments since premiums are high. People run the wheel on TQQQ (as opposed to just buy and hold) to lock in the gains. Basically on super red days, you can write a cash covered put at a high price since people are willing to pay a lot to "secure" a price in fear of a crash.

And let's say you get assigned a TQQQ put for $100 strike after it suffers an insane downfall. Well, now you bought TQQQ at $100 per share. That's kind of a steal right? And you got paid to do it. So it's more like $95 a share.

You can hold it as long as you want, and you can get paid while you wait. "Hey I'll promise to sell you these 100 shares at $125, only if you pay me $2.5 per share in advance." Well, that "per share" amount rises a LOT on super green days. So you lock in the gains on corrections and upward correction days. While not risking anything. If you just buy and hold, you aren't taking advantage of any of the ups and downswings since you're not REALIZING any actual gains and not getting paid any premiums. People who are too scared to BUY and SELL stuff like TQQQ on the swingups and swingdowns in fear of MISSING PROFIT should run the wheel since it sometimes forces them to close out positions when they have an insanely amazing run-up that blows through the covered call, or the stock somehow blows through a put strike making you "buy" the stock at a super low price you never thought would've been hit.

That's a good pic. It would work well enough on most blue chippies and index ETFs. Not suitable for commodities or volatile small to mid caps, mainly because of the stop-buy strat during bearish trend at the beginning. Using trailing stops on volatile stuff requires a limit more strategy around profit taking points, not putting your entire position on trailing stop, etc.

People have different methods obviously. Liquidity, sector rotations, actual worldwide news, general sentiment of the market, RSI, TA.. you just have to find what works for you. Start small (like, 1 spread at a time, 1 sector at a time) then go from there. It's a good idea to start doing like SPY weeklies for dumb low returns (literally 1-2% on collateral).

Example:
Bid-ask spread for 8/14 SPY $310 and $311 result in paying $0.03 a share for 8/14 SPY $310 put and $0.02 a share for 8/14 SPY $309 put.

You sell the $310 put and buy the $309 put. You need $100 of collateral in case SPY dumps to $309. But if SPY stays above $310 by 8/14, you make $1 per $100 of capital required for creating this put spread. This is a 1% return on your collateral. If you gave people a chance to make 1% every single week, they would call you a genius trader. This is normally not possible in a flat market, but due to coronavirus, this is a pretty safe way to make weekly targeted 1-15% returns depending on how risk averse you are.

Couple different approaches there. You can measure the peak to valley distance in the middle of the trend (like pic related) to get a feel for how much the thing typically falls during a normal retrace and how much would be abnormal. Set stop a bit below normal retrace distance for the specific chart. Second way is to use a moving average line or an ichimoku moving average line (the baseline) or support level you have identified, put stop a bit below any of those. There is no set rule about this, you kind of have to feel it out depending on the specific chart.

For pic related example I made three measurements on MSFT chart during the post covid plunge recovery trend. This is showing a normal drawdown range for MSFT of somewhere between 7.5% and 9%. Therefore, put trailing stop around 9% below price. Keep in mind you don't WANT your stop to get hit. Exact strategy should not be about waiting for it to get hit. Come up with better TA based solution for more advantageous sell point(s).
