Sure, one would need to deal with some absolute assholes now and then, but you also get the brainlets who get up in your face over unreasonable demands who get absolutely seething when you gave them a polite smile and a

Yeah kind of

I’m an investigator for UK government tax, but we investigate whether self employed people should really be employed (and pay the right amount)

I see it similar to Eliot Ness and you investigate and meet lots of interesting celebs and companies

I get to work whenever I want, from home or the office, and it’s basically like you get a case and work it til it’s done, no one checking up on you or anything, they just hire the right people who will work it properly to their own pace. It’s also very rewarding as we have a team tally of money saved for the taxpayer each year, last year it was £30 million, enough to run a few schools.

I mostly go to meetings with insane people, interact with psychopathic executives who don’t understand tech. Honestly most of my time is dedicated to coming up with technical documentation to explain why we CANT do a certain project.
However sometimes I do real work and deliver something of value. I work a lot with AWS, Microsoft, Google cloud and these days we are focused on making cloud agnostic frameworks that become POCs but never go live.
I probably do about 10 hours of real work a week on average, probably 35 hours in total. This is simply because I’m super efficient at my job, specifically I’m very talented at telling people no.
Seriously though, read Dilbert if you want to understand more. My life is basically Dilbert.

I think you're working for the wrong company. I say that only because my previous employer was like that until they laid me off. I've also heard of many companies expecting their engineers to work unpaid overtime.

My new job pays 25% more than my last, above the median for engineers in my city and they're serious about 40 hours per week. If I work overtime (paid overtime) for 3 weeks in a row, I get a call from the department manager asking me if everything is okay. If your employer doesn't treat you with respect, find a different company that does.

I'm happy for you anon. Maybe it was a bad company, but from my understanding it is pretty common for that industry. Every owner wants their building built on time. I left the industry completely. Now I have a cushy defense position that pays 30% more, is only 40 hours, and way less stress (no deadlines).

I love my private students; really engaged and interested, with lots of freedom to explore using recording software and applying our skills. I just don’t like having to kiss ass at the other school and candycoat everything for fragile parents who believe in “talent.”

Hoping to eventually work full time as a video game composer. Don’t want to dox myself, but I’ve already written for Ubisoft. Such a great industry to work in.

Ive been unemployed for over a year.

>Job A
Hated it. Felt like a police state that tracked our moves and demanded we keep track of nearly everything we did work related. Including reporting yourself for taking too long in the bathroom or having a long phone call.... I quit via a lie amd then the manager kept calling me for a week...I had to email HR just so I wouldn't get some bs slapped against me.

>Job B
Manager bothered me a lot. She couldn't figure out how to do simple stuff. Ironic that she got paid like 40% more than me. Lots of two faced coworkers. Quit via a lie.

>Job C
Fired because I mentioned the hr roastie manager had me do something that was questionable and if the government knew would likely have resulted in fines or worse if it caused anything serious. Ironic how this higher level manager defended the HR roastie and revealed me as the one who mentioned it which obviously led to me being unofficially reprimanded. Eventually fired when this higher level HR two faced dude who seemed to love flaunting wealth likely convinced the roastie to go through with firing me.

>Job D
Mocked by the supervisor (retail) when I said I was lookong for something else since I have a business degree. Her words were "This is a business." Lmao no I didn't go to college to work minimum wage retail. Wish I never went to college, degree has been nearly useless.
