Owning my own home free and clear gets me out of the rat race permanently barring some sort of highly unlikely disaster or war that causes me to lose everything.

Once you own your home you only need to make enough to pay bills, groceries and any property taxes. It gives you the security to walk out of any job without having to worry about being homeless within a couple of months.

The ultimate freedom. Everything above that is a bonus.
