Whats the point of starting a business when you can be a landlord?
Even starting a restaurant is more risky.

You should ask why government wrote the tax code to make landlording preferable over starting a productive business. Having done both, i would rather run a small factory that my rental units, but there is so much horseshit involved with hiring people that i cant be bothered. If they ruin landlording next im cashing completely out and going on the dole. Fuck anyone and everyone that thinks they are entitled to a share of my labor. Id rather contribute to collapsing the system so i can watch all you worthless fucks starving in the street.

At least here in Canada it is fucking impossible to evict a tenant most especially now because of covid. But I know a friend with some property that spent a good year and a half trying to get rid of someone not paying rent only for them to be evicted and smear their shit on the walls.

My ex's aunt bought a townhouse in Washington DC with a 2 bed, 2 bath separate entrance apartment in the basement. She was initially going to rent it out until she read the tenant, landlord laws, and quickly decided to go against it and decided to make less, but more reliable money by listing it on Airbnb. The laws were heavily stacked in the tenant's favor and made eviction a nightmare of a process. Apparently you'd have to go at least 6 months of non-payments before you were able to begin the eviction, which was a long, drawn-out process that would take months to complete. There were also certain rules you had to follow, so you couldn't just have the police show up and remove them from the premise and as long as the tenant paid 10% of the rent, you couldn't do anything about it other than letting the lease run out.
