21164237 No.21164237 [Reply] [Original]

Hello /biz/, I'm an 18 year old who just graduated high school 3 months ago.

My sister is offering me a job at her real estate company that I can start working at right away for about 50,000 per year. I can also do it completely from home in the comfort of my house and not have to interact with people, which is a big plus for me lol.

I'm just torn on whether or not I should settle for that so early in life, or I should try to go to college (preferably with a STEM/business degree) so I can get a job that makes something like 80-100K. Am I an idiot, should I just settle for the 50K/year job and be content with my life? Is that good enough? I wouldn't really have time to work at my sisters company AND attend a uni full time.

I also like the idea of being able to wake up when I want, work from home, not have to commute, etc. It seems very comfy. Also I guess I could travel around places - maybe even move to a third world country like Thailand or somewhere in East Europe, just pay like $600/month for rent and food and just save save save all my money up.

But at the same time, I feel like I'd be "settling" in a way, when I could instead go to college and get a higher paying career. If I did that I'd also be a wageslave in an office though.

Can someone help me make up my mind? Sorry if this is the wrong board. I made a post on reddit and the retarded mods just deleted it for not having enough details, so not really sure where else to ask.

Thanks for any advice

Also I could live with my parents a couple years max (they won't let me stay if they don't think I'm attending college. I'll lie to them but I could probably only keep it up a couple years) and have 100K immediately to invest in some stock/crypto. Then I'd move out, live as cheap as possible and just save up a couple years? I dont know what Im doing desu

Also I probably should've mentioned that my sister owns a share of the company with 2 other people and I guess I could still potentially be fired if I suck. She's the one hiring me though and has a lot of control over shit so it's not too likely

Not for an 18 year old. 50k is solid just starting out. The amount of money you have to make to be content in US is 70k. Everything after that is dimminishing return.

Realistically you could get to 70k with raises + side gig +crypto.

Hello? Commercial real estate, high end? It’s a leach profession so you can succeed the more adapted you are to high end client needs. Dude, college at 18 is a retarded idea anyways. You have no idea what the fuck you want to do in the future. Go do this job, even just for 3-6 months, the money is good, and it looks good on a resume.

Shit, even if you fell into it for a good decade, you can always do college in your late 20s/early 30s. I'm doing that now for IT and it's honestly not hard at all. Go get some job experience, its more valuable than college by a long shot at 18.

>> No.21164864

>>21164237
both ways can lead to success, anon. you are correct in your sentiments about having high pay for your age now but essentially ceilinged for the future, but you are also the director of your future so that is not set in stone. you could potentially take local classes at a community college while working for your sister, and do this for two years. this is the smarter route to uni, as you would get all the stupid freshman courses out of the way for fractions of the cost and be getting 2 years of the salary and experience. You’d have a great resume transferring into a 4-year program.

i took the STEM route and went straight to a 4-year program. i make 6-digits now a couple years out of college in a career I actually enjoy. the benefit of all this is that I have the capital to heavily invest in crypto and stocks while still knowing that no matter what, I can afford a decent lifestyle moving forward. If my risks go to shit, it won’t be life ending or make me want to “get the rope.” what a lot of anons post on here as their “all in” is kinda play money to me, and I’m not trying to sound like I’m bragging, just giving perspective.

the downside of my route was, yes, it took 4 years. i have no loans due to scholarships so consider that too, but that’s also why I suggested doing community college for the first 2 years. plus, after that 2 years, you’ll probably know if you would rather just continue on the path of working for your sister or actually follow through with school. in that case you’d at least come out with an associates which is better than nothing.

>> No.21164883

>>21164651
You are assuming you’d be kept in the same position at the same pay. I am sure if you worked hard and showed the will to learn new things maybe you can advance up within the company, maybe one day you can be a real estate agent making 200k+ a year.

Or you know if that doesn’t happen you do not need to stay at that job forever, you can find better opportunities later on if you feel you can be making more

This is the most privileged question ever asked. Don't do either, theres really not that much difference between 50k and 100k. I'd say around 500k and up is a completely different lifestyle. You got 100k, start a business, make your own money and work your own hours.

And get the fuck out of parents house immediately.

You are immediately reacting before looking at any of the information which I have provided you. Read, listen, learn, and then make up your mind. To answer your question, in Weimar Germany, 18th century France, Argentina, Zimbabwe, ancient Rome, in short every single case where a fiat currency went to zero, society didn't turn into a Fallout game. There was simply a colossal wealth-transfer out of the hands of those who held currency into those of people who were holding real money, gold and silver. You didn't need bullets during the Great Depression. Crime didn't even go up. The system collapsing is good, and not bad for the economy, because it means that all the poisonous debt and mal-investment will be cleared away, and the top 1% will lose their grip on all the nation's wealth.

If you start now, making $50,000 a year most or all of which you can save by living at home, in 4-5 years you will have $200,000 even if you don't invest any of it

If you go to college in 4-5 years if you study hard, get good grades so you don't fail out or get discouraged, you will have perhaps tens of thousands in debt or $0 in the best case, and you will now have to start paying off that debt with a job you are not guaranteed to get

The game theory looks pretty clear
Don't fall for the college meme, especially these days at the peak of the college debt bubble

Furthermore you may find that the enjoyability of any job comes mostly from the people you work with and the level of autonomy given to you and hence your ability to be the best at what you do in your local hierarchy, rather than some autistic meme about 'passion'
