What is the obsession with cards? That is boomer tech, we are creating the new world here. At last look for Google and Apple pay integration

it's literally the only service they're offering at this point

Cards are king. I can envision a day when most registers are equipped to scan your phone so you don't need a card at all. However cards are still making new evolutions in terms of rewards/offers and there is a huge amount of money to be made in the sector so they are not going anywhere. There is an immense amount of infrastructure needed to replace all this with swiping a phone or whatever, so this boomer tech argument is moot.

The exchanges have become the new banks (which is ironic because BTC was always supposed to be a peer to peer decentralized currency). However an exchange is the only entity that can support a card like this. Binance (the biggest exchange) is now the biggest bank (Chase), and they have a card you can use. A lot of infrastrucure required here as well, and the rewards etc right now are dogshit but it's going to happen sooner rather than cards start disappearing.

It's not as exciting an investment as some of the crypto on this thread that tend to make incredibly ridiculous assertions and use cases (I don't think we have to guess who those are). Whereas this one actually does something. Where the price will go, I have no idea, but with crypto the early adopters are usually the only ones that make money and we're early at this stage.

If spending a year in Asia taught me anything, it's that QR codes are king.

That's already a thing in Europe, Asia and some parts of Latin America. The USA is weirdly outdated in this regard, with people still swping their cards to make payments (which is discouraged in Europe. Some cards don't even have the magnetic band anymore, which is a mistake for other reasons.)

on the one hand I hate banks, on the other hand if they replace banks it's not like we still can't store and transact without them unlike traditional banks where you're basically forced to use them. Maybe it's not such a bad thing, a step in the right direction I guess

Makes only sense if the chip is in your phone and works without battery...
