silver has potential for a moonmission, but gold is more stable on an upward trend

that metal to dollar ratio says silver is undervalued by like 60x and gold about 16x

so silver has more potential to climb but theres also a chance it;ll crash back to $15 or something. gold is a more sure bet long term. I'd want to be holding both ideally, fren

I figured it out
The silver paper:metal ratio isn't 172:1
It's not even 500:1 like Chris Marcus thinks

People have been saying that about SLV for a while - the question for most people is not whether or not it is true - it's at what point it will matter.

SLV can survive up until the point where shareholders try to actually withdraw more physical from the ETF than it holds. Because SLV has fairly high minimum withdrawal limits, you have to be holding a large volume of shares in the first place to be able to withdraw. I don't know what the numbers are like, but this is necessarily going to mean that a portion (probably a significant portion) of SLV shares can never be redeemed for metal, and therefore don't pose a risk of collapsing the ETF.

It's possible that SLV managers are tactically holding just enough physical to be able to cover the positions that are actually capable of demanding delivery. If this is the case, then the large shareholders don't really need to worry about SLV collapsing, and they may have an incentive to continue with the scheme rather than expose it.

Worst case scenario, you will have no way to access your physical backed ETF if society collapses and therefore it is worthless to you, whether the metal is exists or not.

Second worst case, through fraud, theft or otherwise the ETF doesn't actually have the metal they claim to be holding, and when it is discovered your holdings become worthless.

Third issue, ETFs involve management fees which are like a periodic tax to your holdings - shrinking your share of metal over time, whereas 1oz in your hand is always 1oz.

Fourth issue, all ETF gains are going to be traceable and taxable gains, whereas physical holdings can often be sheltered from tax gains very easily. In Canada for example, only physical sales transactions over $1000 are taxable, so if you split your transactions into smaller amounts there is zero tax.

I only compare them as financial assets, think about security and counterparty risk about your particular holdings.

Physical:
++ No sales tax if you sell it
+ / ++ remains an asset in SHTF scenarios
-- Premium
- Not precisely liquid in price or sale (discount this if your LCS buys at spot and is nearby)

ETFs:
++ precisely spot price during purchase and sale
-- 28% long term capital gains tax, or Short Term CG, even worse
- not an asset without electricity, internet, brokerage is down / holder is down
+ liquid, you sell it from home at any moment. Asset dosent take up space (which is a factor for large amounts - I do not hold this as a minus for physical)

I'd absolutely buy silver, gold and platinum. Just split your money 3 ways, or favor silver and split the rest.

Your money is losing value every hour sitting in the bank. The USD 100% WILL go to zero within our lifetimes and there is a chance it will happen in the very near future. But precious metals? They've been valuable at literally any point, anywhere in the world for as long as people have existed.

Worst case you lose like 1/3 if it crashes hard AND, thats a big and, AND you sell instead of waiting 6 months for it to go back up. But it seems to be climbing steadily and I think it'll continue to do so for quite some time, especially as shit unravels

BONUS LAYER: availability is fucked. Look at any PM site, most products are out of stock. So thats a good sign, price should continue to shoot up because demand is INSANE and has been for like 5-6 months now, doesnt seem to be slowing down any. I'd buy fren

When you explain in-jokes like this, they kind of lose their humor. But essentially, it a good-naturedly self-aware jab at how some stackers have fantasies that the price of precious metals will moon essentially infinitely, and allow them to buy whatever they want.

More darkly, it portends that the main impact of currency collapses is the desperation and ruin of ordinary people. It's ominous that the representative meme of /pmg/ isn't about buying physical assets or other commodities, because these things will actually hold their value and price relative to gold. On the other hand, people who held their savings in dollars and other fiat money will become desperate and "cheaper" than ever before (pretty sure this meme has its origins in historical reflections on conditions in Weimar Germany during the great hyperinflation in that country before the Nazis came to power).

tl;dr it works on a few levels. It's sort of coomery, sort of a self-mocking jibe at the greed of some /pmg/ types, and part a dark joke about how terrible our becoming enriched by a currency crisis would actually be for ordinary people.

Even if you don't believe in the gold:silver ratio and just buy gold, you're doing yourself a favor.

Based on what though? The wake doesn't guide the ship. Enough is known about the virus and what drugs work that it can be controlled with masks and drugs.
The only reason for a lock down at this point is if they want to purposely collapse the economy.

>It's Coming. It's Most Definitely Coming.

>So, look, I'm not going to dilly-dally around here. Long-term members know that I am NOT prone to hyperbole and that I never play the all-too-common games of "the Comex is going to crash" and "to the moon". As I've repeatedly stated over the past ten years...You don't want to go around predicting the end of the world because you're only going to be right once.

>That said, I CANNOT STRESS STRONGLY ENOUGH HOW HUGELY BULLISH THIS NEWS WILL BE FOR THE PRECIOUS METALS AND THE MINING SHARES. We are already heading into a prolonged period of stagflation and the Fed knows from history that the only way to manage the debt burden going forward is to "inflate their way out of it", similar to the post-WWII time period. And with this policy of "allowed higher inflation", The Fed MUST also implement Yield Curve Control because, as everyone now knows, The Fed cannot allow higher interest rates or the US economy will crash.

I really don't think there is going to be another lockdown. I live in a state that has not been taking this thing seriously since it started and things are going fine. I think the china virus is a way bigger deal than the average person around here, but I am having to dial that back as I see no proof.
The biggest incoming fiasco I think we have is this rushed vaccine. That has bad idea written all over it. IF the vaccine gets widely distributed then half way though 2021 we start seeing major side effects in the people they are testing it on right now, THAT will be devastation.

GOYS i have big news. I'm moving out of state and I wanted to take out a loan against my current home so that I could buy another house, and then sell this one.

I fucking cant.

I have ~800 good goy score and good tax returns to file with.

Many banks, even big ones like wells fargo simply will not do home equity loans now, period. If you dont believe me, go to their site and look, they say right on it that they're not even taking applications. my bank called and flat out told me is a super "scrutinized" process, minimum one month application, very few getting approved.

My house has appreciated in value by almost 1/3 in the last 5 years. Loaning against it is as sure of a loan as they could make, yet they almost won't even consider it.

The banks know that shits fucked and they don't wanna be stuck with a bunch of houses to resell in a market they know is about to crash hardcore.

This scared me like almost nothing I've seen in the last year. Things are gonna get crazy, frens

Are we due for a pullback soon in silver or gold? I am wary of wanting to buy at the top but it's not like it's a true pullback yet. I just have 4k in my pocket and want to buy some more.

Also, should I be looking into platinum, palladium, or rhodium also or are they out of reach and not a good buy for other reasons? Should I be looking for copper or cobalt or tin or something also?

yeah, but like, what if the government refuses?
The US Federal Government has detached itself from the consent of the governed. The government believes itself to be endowed by God and not the Men who brought it into existence.
The government, and all those who benefit from the tit of it all, will do everything in their power to remain there.
I am unsure that the people will see their money returned to them as the 16th Amendment all but guarantees our enslavement to the very thing we swore to protect ourselves from.
Even so, the government has made it possible to issue a Letter of Marque against any sort of rebellion by the People, thereby empowering it to snuff us out like rats instead of killing us like Men.
The chains are about to break.
Will they be able to hold us for much longer?

I'm very fearful of a revolution by the wrong hands that seek to enslave us even further. I don't believe a majority of the People in the United States have any comprehension of the fundamental principles of Life, Liberty or the Pursuit of Happiness as all hope has been nearly stamped out and beaten out of them with each passing generation.
I am unsure of where it's all headed, or what will be the trigger. Unless we have a "let them eat cake" moment, it's very murky as to when this unfolds, if ever. A Tiananmen Square style event, or even another Boston Massacre were to occur, the world will throw its interest behind whoever is first to taken down America.

Precious metals is primarily driven by treasury yields so low they are effectively negative. At least pet boomer rocks sit there looking pretty not eroding your purchasing power away. Every one from pension funds to life insurance companies are getting into the boomer rock collecting hobby from the cheapest pet rock store on the planet: COMEX

Bull market ends when interest rates is allowed to rise. This may happen when the US goes bankrupt, or the Fed successfully held rates down and hyper-inflated their debt away (leaving others holding the bag). Either way, when interest rates rise, it's time to jump ship

My reasoning is that when the package is announced [which it will be - no way they're going to not do it before August 7 deadline / they're going to extend summer session] the dollar will rise as US economy will be expected to do better with the package, stronger dollar = more expensive to buy PM = PM price down
