You could start by What The Buddha Taught by Walpola Rahula. Some Christians say studying Buddhism has made them a better Christian. And I agree, I am a better person now than when I believed in Christianity. Eastern religion is barely taught in schools in the west and it has made us individualist pricks. Even many Christians believe they are individual souls rather than one with God, leading them to selfishness. I used to believe Buddhism was complete bullshit 5 years ago and I have matured quite a bit since then, especially since I didn't exactly know what it taught. That's why I recommend that book.

I have recently had it revealed to me why the crucification of Jesus is so horrible. Besides all the horrid treatment and death often people will say “so? Many were crucified.”

Jesus DID NOT HAVE TO DIE that is why he is the LION who came as a LAMB. He is a cosmic being. He allowed himself to suffer and experience life and death as a man to understand us and pay for our sin.

This would be like allowing yourself to be killed for the sake of a hill of ants. How much must he love us to allow Himself to experience humiliation, pain, agony and death that it was unnecessary for Him to ever know? All of this at the hands of the very souls he was dying to save? And in the end he lets us ask for his love and gifts squirreled away in some private corner?
