There's no free lunch in options. No free magic money to be made. You're making the same coinflip you make daytrading stocks, it's just a highly leveraged coinflip.

A narrative has been pushed heavily in the past 1-2 years, probably underwritten by Robin Hood and other trade platforms trying to lure zoomers in, that you just need a sharp eye and some pocket money and you too can go from $50 to $5M in two months.

The thing about the stock market (probably all markets, except maybe illiquid shitcoin exchanges or something) is that it's so heavily algo traded that you, a mere fleshling, will never have the advantage. People will still get lucky sometimes and people will still keep spreading stories of those winners around to support their confirmation biases, but it's all bullshit. Billions of dollars worth of self-evolving algos and HFT machines on .0000001 nanosecond fiber lines hooked directly into the NYSE are using every financial instrument in the book to hoover up every last femtopercent of gains that there are to be had. There are no inefficiencies left for some clever iconoclast to stumble upon and make millions from.

My understanding is you should be reporting any taxable event. And then you will either have capital gains or capital losses. You can claim capital losses up to $3,000 per year against your income as a deduction I believe, and anything more carries over to the next year. Subtract your losses from your gains to determine if you will owe any gains tax. Also keep in mind long term vs short term
