Puts cost too much premium to be effective on something like TQQQ. TQQQ in general is a very bullish play so it's better to just go into the market with an exit & entry plan every week knowing your preferred risk when writing calls & writing puts to get back in. If you look at 1/15/21 TQQQ puts for example there's almost no volume because the market knows how volatile TQQQ is, and thus protective puts are pretty much a waste of money at that point.

Good question, I only buy them back if I'm able to catch a big intraday swing downwards & I lock in 50-60% of the premium and am able to sell an even further OTM call for premium equal to the remaining 50-40% that I'm missing from the initial write. Depends on how busy I am at work though honestly.

If I sold on Tuesday and if I'm at 80% profit on Thursday, that's a pretty heavy swing so TQQQ would probably be down 3-4% at that point.. depending on how the premiums are I would probably buy it back and rewrite for the remaining 20% at a higher OTM strike as long as there isn't another leg down on that Thursday.
