Turns out you cant run away forever

But Katanagatari is just so chilled out. Nothing matters in the great scheme of things. So just live a good and simple life. Nobody will remember you in the future, so do your best to make the present a better time.

Honestly one of the few animes that influenced me as a person and one of the few mediums I saw as a 20 year old that didnt say "Youre a snowflake and can move mountains.", but one that was brutally honest about not living in the present and clinging to big dreams or regrets from the past.

Lmao. Buy low sell high isnt complicated. Whats complicated is knowing when is low and when is high. Especially since other stocks dont trade, China opens, Japan opens, Frankfurt opens, Australia closes, etc. all while the NYSE is asleep. then you have contracts going till September or August, etc.

For futures you need to get some experience before you trade. Or you end up like the fag with 10000 ounces of gold.

So I suspect Apple stock might get a little crazier into the end of the year and next, similar to what we saw with Tesla. It won't go to 1000 or anything absolutely absurd like that, but I expect to see some big action.

I'm holding 15 shares now, and thinking of buying 15 shares before earnings in case the price spikes (not having anything to do with results, it could underperform for all I care, but I feel like with earnings out of the way people will just want to rush for the door and get in finally). However, I'd also like to hedge. So what's a good hedge, 8/7 350p? 360p? A little further out in exp?

I'm pretty sure my income tax will be like ~40% for whatever I make over $40K or something once i graduate. ~30% under that. Something like that, not worried about it for now since whatever I make right now falls under the tax-free personal amount for now.

It would be enormously entertaining to see Kodak run up to like 50 again only to plummet to 10, but I have the feeling it'll stabilize in the 30s the same way WKHS stabilized at 15 or thereabouts. No particular reason for the comparison other than that Kodak reminds me of the WKHS situation.

WKHS has a contract potentially that will allow it to operate in the black. Kodak is saying it'll take 3-4 years to ramp up production which is pointless for Covid. Kodak's cashflow for the entirety of 2019 was 12 million dollars. They had been losing about 5x as much every year since 2015.
How the hell are they the most qualified for this?

PnD dynamics. The thing is, WKHS actually has a real world catalyst. I don't know that Kodak really has much potential to turn themselves around, but there are certain companies that have totally pivoted industries successfully (Bicycle cards, I believe). You could also look into the MVIS chart, that shit still doesn't have any actual reason to be where it is. I unironically lost $3k on it in a panic sell knowing it was a PnD.

https://readthehedge.com/2020/07/28/trump-family-friend-coincidentally-discovers-passion-for-film-photography-one-hour-before-kodak-government-funding-announcement/

>PALM BEACH – Acknowledging that “he knows how bad this looks,” a good friend of the Trump family said today that his purchase of $20 million in Kodak shares just prior to the government’s announcement of funding was a coincidence related to his sudden, absorbing passion for classic film photography. Gene Salazar, a Mar-a-Lago member and regular golfing partner of the president, said that the mood to buy millions worth of Kodak stock shortly before it shot up 300% “just struck him early this morning” while he was out walking and definitely not receiving a private call from Donald Trump Jr. regarding the administration’s planned move. “I mean honestly,” he said, “If you told me that Donnie would, completely out of nowhere, throw three-quarters of a billion dollars at Kodak to produce drugs, I wouldn’t have believed you anyway.”

Salazar, like a number of others who suddenly felt very confident in Kodak’s future in the hours prior to any news being released, saw his initial $20 million investment triple in a matter of minutes. “I guess they say invest in what you know and love, and we all know I love photography, even though Kodak doesn’t make film anymore. It just felt right, and I was rewarded.” When pressed on whether he would hold on to the shares as a show of trust in Kodak’s pivot from film manufacturer to government-owned medical enterprise, Salazar was not so sure. “Perhaps tomorrow I develop a passion for disease eradication and invest in a small biotechnology company in Utah that is about to announce a vaccine trial,” he said.

The SEC, operating out of the abandoned husk of a Blockbuster in suburban New Jersey, was not available for comment on a potential investigation.

I'm a little perplexed by the posters feeling like they missed out somehow on this one. These are the scenarios:
1. You had a long before the news. Huge 200 and some percent gap up. 18% drawdown from open. Did you sell this? You're insane if you didn't.
2a. You bought the day of. Did you hold overnight? That would also be pretty nutty coming after a gap up like that.
2b. You saw that gap up and drawdown, decided against because most of the time a move that sharp does have immediate mass profit taking and considerable drawdown.
3. You did scenario #2a and held cause you're a madman. Did you sell today?

I'm trying to say this is day trade only stock and it's ridiculous to think you would have held last night or tonight without fighting waves of nausea and biting your fingnails to nubs.

Heads up.

$EMN (https://finance.yahoo.com/quote/emn/))

>Eastman Chemical Co. engages in the provision of specialty chemicals. It operates through the following segments: Additives and Functional Products, Advanced Materials, Chemical Intermediates and Fibers.

Eastman Chemicals spun off of Kodak in 1994 and Kodak still has the rights to use some of their plants in Kingsport. This might be a big winner if they decide to rely on Eastman Chemical Co. for manufacturing support. I'm going to be watching this ticker very closely for weird activity.

Index funds but probably not for a while given the heavy uncertainty.
You eliminate a lot of the pitfalls of trying to choose winners with a total market index fund and a total market bond fund. Some of the expense ratios are so low (<0.05%) they are negligible over decades. You won't get crazy gains but you will be virtually guaranteed to be beating inflation by 5-8% and you will also limit downside risk. It is the kind of investment you periodically drop in some of your paycheck and check once a year.
Avoid actively managed mutual funds. They consistently underperform index funds.

I would be immensely happy if it hit $240 by July 2021. I caught some of the brouhaha about that. MSFT initially markets new console as big powerful many teraflappers cutting edge etc. Then show flagships game. Doesn't look bad exactly but does not like something you'd see on the current gen of consoles, not what you'd pay hundreds of dollars to upgrade to new for. Watched Digital Foundry explanation video on why it looks underwhelming. Something about software lighting, gist seems to be new console might not be powerful enough to use the bleeding edge lighting tech, possibly because MSFT went for 4k resolution instead of maxing out graphics for a lower resolution. MSFT then comes out with statement saying something like we're not going for cutting edge tech with this console.

Funny. I'm not trading it either way. And I don't vidya so there's no decision making process going on here about what new entertainment bobble to buy.

Second shutdown won't happen, we'll just get more words of caution and talk of masks/social distancing. Public figures are trying to adapt to the recommendation of masks over the recommendation of successive lockdowns, which they see as politically prohibitive. Obviously restaurants, travel, hospitality etc. will remain fucked for the foreseeable future, but we're not returning to hunker down in your basement with piles of toilet paper mode any time soon.

The secondary and tertiary effects of the economic downturn might manifest in ways which the market finally acknowledges are inescapable, but we already know stocks are divorced from reality so it's hard to know how much that will truly affect prices. It seems to me like investors/traders have been too strongly conditioned to the notion of a quick recovery/periodic selloffs and swings back up to totally capitulate a second time, but I just don't know.
