If you were to short one bitcoin you would be loaned one bitcoin and it would be sold immediately. You still owe that bitcoin back though so you hope the price drops so you can repay it at a lower cost. Then you can do this with leverage where you’ll make more money but swings in the wrong direction will force you to close your position early
