When the USD deflates and becomes worthless so will most roasties . If people aren't going to be accepting USD for payments because of how disinflated it is, they will fall back on GLD and SLV. Venezuela is a great example; their black market trades in:

Clean and used diapers (bottom)
Clean and used diapers (face)
SLV
SLV derivatives
War knuckles (40%)

When the USD is wiped out there won't be another reserve currency to fall back on so most economies will shift to SLV and wheat pennies for purchases until the government comes out with the Dollary Doo 2: Nu-male Boogaloo

not the point - society has existed as long as man has had his own family i.e. the entire time. PMs hold value and have done for all of recorded history. Key term beung "hold value" - you can go to any point in recorded history and gold is always valueable - imagine taking today's USD back even 20 years and imagine how worthless they are - even worse, taking them forward 20 years - inflation will take its toll - gold much less.

The cost of human labor might come down in PM terms, due to desperation. So while the silver price of the ingredients of that McDouble would likely not change much (although possibly farm wages would decline somewhat), the wages earned by the workers at the McDonalds would likely fall during a currency reset, and there’s even a possibility of these savings being passed onto the consumer, if McDonald’s were forced to work hard to keep prices low since everyone will be practicing economy.

In a why this is the rather dark subtext behind this thread’s representative meme about *formerly* well-to-do housewives and their young daughters.

The prices of raw commodities and assets like like iron, lumber, land, and so on are unlikely to change much. These are objectively as valuable before as after a crisis. Human beings are on the other hand unfortunately not of the same value. Because of spreading desperation, their ability to negotiate on the market collapses.

ETFs and physical PMs are completely different kinds of investments, though. You have a strong argument in that ETFs are a good way to play the markets, and shuffle between different commodities to make fast profits if your timing is right.

But people stacking physical bars and coins are in for the very long haul, either because they have a very conservative mentality, or because they have exceptionally little faith in the monetary system. You’re not likely to convince people losing faith in even paper legal tender to sink lots of what wealth they have into derivatives, period.

Again, I can see the arguments for ETFs. You can sell faster, more easily and cheaply. You can react faster to market movements. But you could say it’s a completely different game entirely.

Not gonna lie It's not that hard to understand if you are high IQ. It's just that buying physical metal is fundamentally flawed, not because of 32% premiums, those are fine, but because the stock of physical metal just isn't about to be out there anymore. Production was at a four-year-high BEFORE the rona shut everything down. Now everybody and their mother is curtailing production. EVERYBODY! Whats going to happen when they flood the market with that pent up supply? WHAT? The biggest banks in the world have been playing games with physical silber and gold for scores of years. YEARS
Silver is NOT PAPER METAL
Gold is NOT PAPER METAL

Prices will go to moon levels, but that's because the dollar will be worth very little. A loaf of bread may be $10k, and the government would be handing out millions a week to everyone to keep them from starving. You wouldn't want to cash in at this point because the $10 million you get for your ounce of gold could literally be worth $100million by the end of the day depending on how bad the hyperinflation is.

At some point you would be trading physical PMs to others for goods and services. When the new currency is rolled out, you would want to take loans out against your fat stack to live. You'd essentially be your own bank at that point.

yes, deflation encourages saving but it discourages spending/consumption and can also discourage investment (both necessary to economic growth). I completely agree that central banks are out of control and inflation at these rates (2% is a fucking meme and real inflation is hidden by outsourcing production) eats away at your savings by the time you retire.

But how do you manage and balance the adequate amount of silver used in industry vs the amount backing world currencies? If there's a shortage used in industrial production does the amount of physical backing cash decrease? does that lead to an increase in price per oz of silver? Does money supply increase gradually over time? Does this mean silver increases in price over time if the same amount of silver is backing a larger amount of currency?

OR if we live in a deflationary monetary system, and physical silver is still being pulled out the ground + recycled (assuming it becomes profitable 5,10+ years from now) does silvers price decrease with there being more ounces of silver backing the same amount of currency?

>average double-digit IQ person being priced out of a smartphone for the first 40 years of life is a real problem.

I don't see it as a real problem, and I personally think if people held onto there phones (argument also valid for all consumer products) and only exchanged them when there was irreversible damage we would live in a much greener and objectively better society. But if wealth inequality continues to increase and your average Joe realises he's now priced out of the latest iPhone and playstation as well you think they won't see that as unfair?

I don't necessarily believe it will either, just using those numbers as examples. What will happen is either a complete stock market collapse (because the fed cuts QE and the rising yield destroys it like we saw last year), or currency hyperinflation because the fed never stops printing, and more helicopter money is dropped on the population because of COVID-19 (a second lockdown is already being clamored for by many politicians).

Either way, you're going to want to hold that PM as tight as you can because some bad shit is going down real fucking soon. We're in the age of the fourth turning, and we may yet see war with China if that dam bursts and they can't get anyone to buy their gold.

Here is the thing computers have already reached a point where your average person does not need an upgrade every year. Case in point gaming PC I can sell a xeon from 8 years ago with a video card from 4 years ago that will still play the bulk of games people want to play quite happily.

>can also discourage investment
It can, but not in any serious way. People will always want to make more money, and those among us who are less risk-averse are always going to invest to do exactly that. Growth won't be as fast, but who cares? I would much prefer slower economic and technological growth with a stable economy and social structure than what we have now.

>But how do you manage and balance the adequate amount of silver used in industry vs the amount backing world currencies?

If it is tied to the currency the prices would increase over time. This likely wouldn't be exponential as companies would realize it would be worth it to find alternatives to silver in their products. The reason copper is used for electrical wire instead of silver despite silver being significantly more conductive RIGHT NOW is due to cost. The same sort of thing would happen in other industries that use silver.

> if we live in a deflationary monetary system, and physical silver is still being pulled out the ground + recycled (assuming it becomes profitable 5,10+ years from now) does silvers price decrease with there being more ounces of silver backing the same amount of currency?

This is also a possibility, but the government would peg silver at a certain value against whatever currency is used as they did in the past. As more silver is dug out of the ground it would require adjustment as time went on. None of these things are "set it and forget it" policies.

> But if wealth inequality continues to increase and your average Joe realises he's now priced out of the latest iPhone and playstation as well you think they won't see that as unfair?

I return with the holy grail of PMs, if anyone in this general remembers from several weeks ago I spoke of possibly discovering the holy grail of PMs.

Well I did, and I return to share the wealth with you, /pmg/, who effectively sold me the treasure map to begin with. The answer?

Estate sales.

These rich, retarded boomer fucks are dying more and more now, sometimes without kids and always with retarded normie kids. Their life holdings end up on the butcher's block for pennies. Since these retarded old fucks are from the older generations, even the average ones tend to have some PMs, and the rich ones have a fair amount, that neither their retarded children nor the sellers know what the fuck to do with.

I got 39 ounces of silver, and half an ounce of gold from the last estate sale, for a fraction of the price. Literally, I paid $12/oz for the silver. As I said, the holy grail /pmg/.

Thats a very fair point and one I agree with, my worry is we are at a stage in society where people want to have their cake and eat it too. I really hope im not wrong but my theory is 90% of this preachy bullshit disappears when the cards are down and people truly realise what an equal and sustainable society would look like.

>This is also a possibility, but the government would peg silver at a certain value against whatever currency is used as they did in the past. As more silver is dug out of the ground it would require adjustment as time went on. None of these things are "set it and forget it" policies.

>Check out https://wtfhappenedin1971.com/ and look at what happened to wealth inequality once we officially decoupled from gold. Inflationary fiat systems are infinitely more inequitable than deflationary ones.

You think this would happen again though? modern society is very different to the one in the 1970's and before. with automation on its way and most production outsourced to developing countries (would be nice for some to come back and relieve the Wests dependance on services-based tertiary economies) would a bimetallic standard hold up in the same way it did back then? would is also mean the government confiscating our bullion?

Since there was no planned obsolescence in the soviet union what they did build and had the skill to build was built as robust as possible.
If you have some time the following is a good documentary on the whole planned obsolescence scheme

The USSR had VERY little consumer goods, it was a shithole.
They would break down all of the time, they often didn't have the correct inputs to make their products. The only reason they had any industry at all is because capitalists from USA and Europe came over there to create factories and build up their industry. Read Antony Sutton.

Also there's nothing wrong with selling things for cheap, consumers demand cheap products even if the quality isn't 100% perfect. It's retarded to make sure everything uses the best materials because then it would be super expensive.

I am not defending the USSR they obviously are a shit hole my point was they could not afford to make products purposefully inferior. They had to make products to the best of their ability. The example in the video of the east German company that designed a long lasting light bulb which they then attempted to sell to the west and failed because the west wanted bulbs that failed sooner so people would be forced to replace them is the best example.

You cannot prove planned obsolescence is a thing actually taking place and widespread in the west.
What is most likely happening is companies are selling things for cheap and not using the best materials/methods, thus the products break down quicker. This is a good thing for consumers.

>east German company that designed a long lasting light bulb which they then attempted to sell to the west and failed because the west wanted bulbs that failed sooner so people would be forced to replace them is the best example.
The "west" isn't a person or company. Consumers would gladly buy longer lasting lightbulbs if they were cheap enough, nobody was preventing this guy from doing this, he could have just sold it on the market if he had the capital to do so.

>These companies design cheep goods that fail and quickly as possible to force their customer to purchase a new good.
Your documentary isn't actual proof.
Also a few anecdotes and cherry picked stories isn't actual data supporting your theories.

>Its not about the price its about the needless consumption which is fueled by debt.
I want to abolish the fed, but what you're saying has nothing to do with capitalism itself.

question for miner share owners: if silver goes 5X or 10X and the DXY goes down down, what do you do with the returns?

I am hoping this happens when the real estate market crashes so all the returns can get parked into a house, or a Tesla cybertruck.

>What are the difference between Gold and Silver investors?
Gold investors tend to be more calm. They know they won't "get rich", they are hedging for inflation. They aren't chasing lambos.
Silver investors tend to be more hopeful. By most accounts silver is extremely cheap and a lot of people who buy it expect a 10x increase. We are chasing lambos.

The big players are known to dump ridiculous amounts of silver on to the market at once. Like selling more than the yearly production of silver in a matter of minutes.
They don't even have that silver to begin with so it's a huge fraud. But people are realizing it. People are starting to stand for delivery at the comex. And every single time the silver price has been smashed over the last few weeks it has rebounded in a matter of hours. The tide is turning.
