Someone shill me LINK in a reasonable manner. Why is there a need for a coin worth $bns to effectively push messages from non-blockchain applications to the blockchain? Am I missing something? Because theoretically, it wouldn't be difficult to build an API to do this locally and I'm sure most enterprise companies would prefer data processing between off-chain and on-chain to be done in-house

yes cunt you've figured it all out. Chainlink is an elaborate three year long pump and dump scam pushed by 4chan neets. You've broken the code. You've glitched the matrix. You figured it out chap, you figured it out.

The majority of use case for blockchain in the real world lies in data security via decentralization. Your shitty centralized API is full of security problems that only become worse and worse as computers get more powerful, and cost businesses more and more money. It also negates any possibility of automation of complex data and financial exchanges which we call smart contracts. Additionally, your shitty API connection is subject to failure or manipulation.

The reason why allowing data on and off chain is useful is because it allows blockchain to be used in every day applications which ultimately will save businesses across the globe many trillions of dollars. Blockchain doesn’t serve even 1% of the purpose it should if it can’t securely — and that means without possibility of failure — interact with off chain data.

LINK makes blockchain useful. And there is nothing else like it.

Not really that a back-end problem, if companies could cut cost in back-offices, they would do it every fucking time.

it depends on where the data thats being supplied by the api is originating from in the first place though. What if its data that the company isnt generating themselves and its coming from somewhere outside the business?(most useful data would be) thats an obvious central point of failure security wise for them because its reliant on an api thats pulling data from some outside data provider that the company doesnt have any power over. Even in the case that whatever data the company is wanting to relay onto the blockchain is being generated by themselves, chainlink oracles could still be really useful to a business to monetize their own data by allowing chainlink nodes to access it and even running their own high staked node which supplies that data themselves.

Does chainlink do datasets that can be traded?

nope.
