Midwit syndrome in action. I'll spoonfed you half retards because I'm in a good mood. Anything can be a currency as long as it has value, longevity and transportability, it doesn't need to claim to be one whatever that's supposed to mean. Historically it has applied to shells, rice, grains, dates, gold and silver of course, promissory notes and as of right now law enforced pieces of paper.

It doesn't matter what the intent of Sergey is, and it doesn't matter what label is being applied to link as of right now, do you understand?

Arbitrum only semi-solves scaling, though. It removes computationally intensive process from the blockchain, but it still needs to be finally settled on an L1, and there is no current L1 that could handle settlement of global trade volume, even with Arbitrum.
L1 still needs to be fixed for the whole thing to work at world-changing scale.

It's not about popularity it's about value
See >>20787613 a currency needs longevity, transportability and value. BTC have everything but no value, no intrinsic value anyways in the sense that its price comes exclusively from speculation, as opposed to say the price of oil, gold, or real estate that is at least partially determined by the real world utility of the thing.

Now if chainlink manage to be the middleman of the derivative market, and can capture some of its value like this, it would get the third piece of the currency puzzle : non-speculative value on top of transportability and longevity.

Popularity has nothing to do with it, the asset that is better at being a currency will most likely *become* a currency, *become* the most popular

ETH too has a best shot than BTC at world currency status, that is once again if it can scale.

About the fact link is a eth token, it doesn't really matter as long as the value is in the token. What's important is its transferability, no matter how the transferability happen. ETH gas price is a problem when it comes to transferability, but then we just return to the scalability problem. For any crypto to work as a world currency the fees for transfer needs to be not even 1% of the value transferred, not even 1/1000 ideally.

Beside, isn't link blockchain agnostic? Doesn't that mean link can theorically leave the eth blockchain to be on its own?
