Your call refers to 100x TSM stocks to be purchased for $85 each, and the call has a value of its own (since others might want to buy that opportunity just as you did) and thus can be bought and sold as stock. The 2.16 per share is the value of the option itself, i.e. 2.16*100=$216. So if you were to sell the option @2.16, you would make $216. But you would no longer have the ability to buy 100 TSM at $85.

It's possible, but they could also make money on it instead of paying to keep all the aging fossil fuel and nuclear plants online. Companies like Tesla will probably create virtual power plants using all their solar and battery products, including their cars, and feed energy into the grid when needed which saves them from buying energy from expensive peaker plants which is the most expensive type of power plant to buy from because it's only operating during peak times.

I don't know anything about electric utility stocks though so I don't know if they're a good investment. I suggest just buying TSLA as they're likely to become the biggest solar and battery company.

The number of solar installations has been rising but the total amount of MW deployed is down from when they bought Solar City. Their battery MW deployed is rising, it got hit by Covid but almost fully rebounded in Q2, plus they just landed a huge contract that dwarfs what they've been installing. Battery deployment is where they're going to make their money because while they're 1/3 cheaper than the average solar installation, they're way cheaper in terms of batteries.

compared to stocks, the potential upside/downside risks are much higher, the value of the option will decay insofar as the stock crabs (as you move closer to the date of expiration), and the option will be worthless if the strike price is not hit at the point of expiry. so similarly to stocks, if you're counting on the stock continuing to rise, hold; if you expect it to drop, sell. it's better for shorting than anything; if you're planning to hold anything long-term, you're better off just buying. then again, you can also purchase calls as a hedge, so you don't have to commit to buying 100x the stock in case it tanks.

I sort of conceive of trading options as pennystocks for higher priced companies. hope this helps

>I have to figure out a way to backtest that isn't retarded
This is no biggie and nothing complicated. Put widgets to test on chart, one at a time to start. Identify spots where widget said buy and measure (price range tool) the price difference between that price and the price it said to sell. Do it a bunch on lots of different charts. You will start to see the strengths and weaknesses of the widget in question. Maybe it's better for entry signal but not so good at exit timing, or vice versa. Maybe it's useless and you should pitch it in the garbage and try another. Maybe it's slightly off and maybe you can fiddle with the parameters of it (in settings in tradingview) and see if that helps improve.

Keep at this and eventually you will have a group of three or four things all working in tandem that do specific things for you. It's a lot of work but not complicated.

Is there any chance of MSFT being exactly at 200 a year from now? Lower than that? How about AAPL? Exactly at 380? Corrected to 350 and stalled out there for a year?

I have like 1.5 - 1.75 years' worth of savings if I continue living the way I am (this comes out to exactly 50K). I want my cash reserves to be enough for one year of expenses (~30K) if I can't find a job by next summer. I want to invest the rest (20K) to prepare for the worst case scenario of having to pull out next July.

Is MSFT or AAPL a guaranteed 10%-20% gain in a year? How about QQQ? Any reason to think the election or some other event will bring the market into a correction and have the entire 12 months following this one essentially be a year of lost gains?

Etsy can't sustain a business on custom masks forever and it certainly didn't deserve the massive stock boost it got. That said no one has any clue what their earnings are doing, so be careful.

As for the solar utility issue. The utilities made a report a few years back that said solar is going to destroy them. So yeah it isn't good for them. The short point is their most profitable customers will go solar first, which forces them to raise rates in everyone else, which causes more to go solar.

metals are going up because it's more and more obvious that the economy isn't bouncing back despite what the news actors on TV are saying and based on the FED actions and statements so far they will chose inflation over allowing market correction

Be wary of the 'line go up = virtuous and correct' and 'line go down = long nose collusion' fallacy. The folk you blame for line go down are the same folk pushing line up. All you can do as a smol spec (as everybody here is), and this goes triple for spastic shit like forex and commodities, is trade the trend.
