The thing with automation is the parts needs to be designed for assembly in an automated fashion, so parts will likely have a higher cost, after that the costs are nil - maintenance, QC, feeding(filling hoppers and whatnot), and energy. I am surprised that Amazon still packs boxes by hand, the amount of human labor is insane. Remember that if we go to automation, the people working these jobs will do the following as stated: maintenance, and feeding/upkeep, it will free up human resource for greater endeavors such as space exploration. Farming needs automation, indoor farming needs to become a reality, energy/land costs are the issue. Also automated [electric] trucking as well.

You have to code the automation. GUI-based automation is young, imperfect, and way too limited in functionality while taking up way too much computational resources.
>the rest is getting replaced by Indians working for dirt cheap
Not in Defense/national security lmao >how it led to the Boeing Max problem

If you think humans will forever write basic code and that computational power won't increase, I don't know what to tell you. It's a supply and demand issue, soon there will be an oversupply of coders that will suppress wages even more than they are suppressed right now through the 3rd world labor pool.

I brought up Boeing Max to specifically counter the defense industry coping argument that is constantly brought up by people like you. Even if the industry only allowed for US citizens, there wouldn't be enough jobs in it to justify all the learn to code shilling. In reality, you don't need to be a citizen, you only have to have a green card and I'm there are various loopholes with subcontractors.

Daily. It's amazing how dumb people can be despite having money.

I tried to make running a vacation rental company sound posh. We manage about $250 million in property, do about $17 million in rental sales a year, and then $20 million in RE sales. I bitch about my jobs sometimes but could never see myself doing anything else. I need to find a way to get some ownership %. Have ran shit for the owners for 10 years and they are making bank ($2 - 3 mil a year). Have a family friend wanting to sell their company with 80 luxury condos doing the same thing next year and I'm just going to have to sack up, ask bossman, and say it's either cut me in or leaving. Those 80 condos would add another $6 million in sales so it should add another $1 - $1.2 million in commission to the company a year.

Funny story - we are in Alabama so it's pretty red. Last week we had a tranny rent a condo. He left a blow up doll when he left and called back for it Thursday to see if we could shit it back. Deal with weird shit like that almost daily.

The larger your capital and correct record the more others care.

So there is some real usefulness in the long run. Also you have to imagine what one might do with a lot of capital. Stock trading might be the best way for some to get wealthy and have the stability to go all in on some useful pursuit.

i sure hope you know something else about that company because the success rates for approval from phase 1 (never mind preclinical) is much lower than a coinflip. That image tells me nothing, never mind if a drug actually has prospects to be a breakthrough drug or just another copycat drug.

but honestly, you'll probably win out in the end so long as you take your profits on time. I really doubt the market cares about the actual risks with pharmaceutical companies. It looks like they just pump brainlessly on any news.

Well you gotta scan the job openings and go from there. A lot of jobs let you substitute exp for edu. So you could get a entry level job with nothing but an H.S degree and work up the ladder. Via promotions or just a straight up transfer into a different job. The only catch is the 6 month probation period. New hires go on this for 6 months. You gotta watch your back. Toe the line and you'll be ok. After your past 6 months your untouchable unless you actively try to get fired.

> Alasdair Macleod says, “I think the problems with the currency are going to happen by the end of this year. I think the problems of the COMEX are going to happen considerably before that. I think they are going to be tied into a wider banking crisis. A banking crisis is certain. I cannot see how it can be avoided. . . . If our end point is the purchasing power of the dollar goes to zero, then you can see $1,800 for the price of gold and $19 for the price of silver is chicken crap compared to where it’s going to go. So, this is a major, major move that is happening, not because they are buying gold and silver so much, but because people are beginning to realize what is happening to the purchasing power of the dollar, pound, euro and so on and so forth. That is the thing to keep in mind. . . . I think the dollar will be destroyed by year end, and the price of gold and silver is infinity. . . . I think the banking crisis could start in a month. Look what’s happening to their balance sheets. . . . I think the collapse is likely to be so rapid that in the absence of any other information, the best thing to do is to hold on to gold and silver as an insurance policy just in case I am right.”

Educate yourself, you fool. More slavery has gone on within Africa than outside of it. Millions of Europeans were enslaved by Africans. The vast majority of white people during that time never owned slaves and the majority of the Atlantic slave trade was done by Jewish people.

wasn't a big part of what precipitated the GFC the loosening of financial regulations under Clinton and Bush?

>And what is the alternative to oil?
70% of oil production is used for transportation. The only thing in that sector that can't be readily replaced by battery electric are container ships and jets, everything else is on the way out and demand for oil will collapse. Keep in mind that it costs more to produce oil in western countries than countries where the oil is more easily extracted like Saudi Arabia. The Canadian and US oil industry will collapse long before they do.
>And do you think that countries like india givea single fuck about the evnironment?
EVs have fallen to prices where they are cheaper than ICE, so there's no issue there, but they do have some environmental policies that favor EVs. China for example charges much more to register an ICE vehicle than electric and in some places you're not even able to own one. This helps them cut down on the amount of smog.

Forgot about his CVX recommendation - I was referring to his thesis that oil as an industry is no longer investable and should be dumped (i.e. that EV takeover in 5-10yr timeframe is guaranteed). Given the current flight to the suburbs, I suspect demand will go up in the medium term. EV's are at least viable now but still not ready for prime time, and I suspect that the kind of people who think that everyone will have one don't fully comprehend the barriers to getting EVs into the hands of the 3K Civic crowd or even the 10K Civic crowd (and of course especially not the 60K F-150 crowd).

how about for a long-term hold? INTC is still a great company isn't it? what if you were willing to hold it for a year lets say?

my brother is considering as he says "loading up" right now and im trying to advise him. personally i don't like making plays like this, but then again im also a day trader who plays on technicals. looking at the chart >>20711685 it's around a level of resistance, to be fair. if anything i'd at least see if it breaks the high of that huge dropped candle is what i want to say. ideally i want to say that i'd wait to see if it gets to that strong support at $44, but i can understand that if you don't get in now and it starts recovering you might miss the boat.

so what do you think about DCA'ing in? i at least want to tell him to buy some on monday sure, but just a half or even third of a position. be able to buy more at 44 and maybe half way inbetween too, thoughts?

His thesis is more about what investors are willing to pay up for than what is profitable.

ESG ETFs are growing explosively and money managers are always trying to show their clients that they’re forward thinking. That’s why money managers are bidding up stocks like zoom, Shopify, chipotle, etc.

Focusing on the fundamentals like the use case for oil misses what he always talks about as the “Wall Street fashion show”. Usually the time for value and fundamentals to shine is during a recession when there isn’t enough cash to hide shitty fundamentals and companies start defaulting. But the fed has made that much less relevant.

I get that ESG investing is becoming popular (and while I think ESG ETFs are a big meme I can't ignore the effect they could have on the markets), but oil stocks largely return value in the form of dividends so that shouldn't matter, right? You don't need share prices to track book value / earnings if you're just getting a cut of those earnings directly.

Also, it's true that growth has beaten value soundly regardless, but I want some exposure to value in case the music stops.
