Since Thiel and Y Combinator both glow they probably also want to see if they can find out who is sending money and where in the countries Reserve operates in. It's nothing to him to toss a little at this since the potential upside is quite large and even if it is not, he enjoys the benefits I described above. These guys don't give attention to shitty projects as some kind of favor or paltry payments of pocket change.
