I already have a small stack of this but I want to learn more. Tried to listen to a podcast with Gilles and his accent was just too thick for me. This project seems promising but it doesn’t seem nearly as much as shoe-in a Link. Link benefits enormously from the network effect and isn’t really competing at all with existing companies. Iexec doesn’t seem to benefit from the network effect and is competing with existing cloud infrastructure.

iExec has 1000x the network effect.
It is not only competing with existing cloud infrastructure but it is CONNECTING them to the decentralized world.

ANY centralized existing cloud infrastructure can join the marketplace and the iExec team will even be contracted out to do that for them.

There are no fees, except to buy and use the RLC token to keep the ecosystem healthy.

>Is the idea that cloud service providers will be using iexec to be handling some or all of their workload

The cloud providers connect their machines to iExec for various reasons. Offering idle computing power to iExec is one great use case. iExec can also save them money in various ways but that's for another thread.

>Do their customers get to select when this is happening or is that all happening under the hood?

It could be both. It would depend on what is being asked, I assume. The idea though is that the customer wouldn't be able to tell the difference. So probably under the hood.

Again, I don’t see how the network effect comes into play. It might be a great product but it doesn’t seem like it gets better and more valuable the more people are using it. It doesn’t mean “it’s gonna be good and cheap so lots of people will use it.”

Not everyone is a 80 IQ degenerate or some ICO scammer, some people have higher aspirations, in the case of Gilles it's probably a mix of autism and passion for distributed computing since he worked on that for 20 years.

That's why I never invested in any crossed arms asian shark ICO and other 20 something greedy Ivy League fags which were obviously 100% profit driven.
I invest in people I can perceive the true obsessive autism, for example I put money in LINK because Sergey was literally posting about smart-contracts back in 2009 when absolutely noone gave a shit and there was no money to make.
