4) Twitter fucked up their new API allowing anyone to send tweets for different accounts. Some crypto obsessed third worlder found the bug in the API and saw that twitter only pays 7k for bugs and had to act quickly before someone else reports this bug. So he did the first thing he could think of and it was this lame ass btc scam.

Also pretty sure Elon is going to repay everyone who sent BTC to the scammer while the tweet was on his profile.

>Twitter sends a notification when you login from a different area

Not to mention I'm assuming Twitter has TFA as an option? I don't know personally because not a pleb but I'm guessing so. Not only that but you'd assume they'd offer some kind of additional protection for very high VIP types that could potentially start some real shit if their account was compromised. Given, it looks like this person had backend access or is an insider but still. I've been an enterprise sysadmin for 15 years now and this kind of shit is why I trust open source anything over protected big org proprietary systems.

I agree the sentiment in principle, but logically that would just lead to potentially quality developers abandoning big companies in favor of pursuing bug bounties. The tech sector would grind to a halt with every feature being produced by dumber anons and getting grilled by competent anons.

Twitter has to employ a whole lot of people to moderate when the entire world uses it, so it could be an employee. It also seems Chinese to me and the messages written by people who have little idea who these people are, hence the strange method used to capitalize on it. Some type of backdoor from chinese hardware not related to the government but some private interest.

Two thoughts:

1) at first, like everyone else, I thought the scam was a really dumb way to use access to almost any massive bluecheck Twitter accouunt and also a huge missed opportunity, but in the end: A) someone got paid for basically copy + pasting a message a few different times, and B) there are legal implications if they get caught, but probably not anything too crazy (whereas, if they tweeted threats/naughty words from accounts, they could face worse criminal charges. A scam's a scam). So, low risk high reward use of the opportunity.

2) Twitter is such a fucking dogshit company that has shifted focus from important, essential things like security and successful ways to implement advertising, to fucking retarded flavor-of-the-week SJW causes like banning "Nazis" and silencing/censoring WrongThink. They've lost their way, and in the end it's due to weak leadership at the top. Their shifted focus to picking sides in a Tumblr-originated online culture war has clearly been at the detriment of obvious more important focuses, like, oh I don't know, security.

Short Twitter.

Not to mention IV has premiums up across the board right now with so much uncertainty in the air. I made a shit load sitting on SPY puts opened in early Feb before normies realized Wuhan Fever was coming. No, it's a quick and dirty job, it's better to have your paste preloaded on the clipboard and spam from as many accounts as possible instead of fumbling between pastas trying to match the message to the account.

Still a waste of opportunity. If the hacker really cared about the future they would have planned this out and dropped subtle redpills that fit each account so it wasn't an immediately obvious hack. That would have had a far great impact in the long run.
