Someone mentioned 'windfall profit tax' a few threads ago. I looked it up and it just seems like a spite tax on industries that normies don't bother with. Like, if Tesla went to 10 gorillion per share that's fine because everyone and their mother has some, but gold going to 10k/oz or oil 200/barrel? Not fair!

Is this something we realistically have to worry about?

Most things I see with regards to reclaiming PMs from electronics require a shitload of expensive (and dangerous) chemicals. That being said, the reclamation of fine(r) silver from sterling is a simple process involving only nitric acid and pieces of copper. That will yield 98% pure silver, and can be further refined into .99999 by building a cell out of a graphite block and some silver electrolyte.

lol yeah I like a lot of the Silver Shield stuff too. Kinda pricey, but I feel it's like donating to the cause. Dude puts out some good information/ideas.

As far as the list--
Everyone's prep is going to be different, there's no one-size-fits-all prep. Anon seemed like he was prepping for a bit more than the stores being out of tiolet paper, so I tried to do a medium-sized prep list. Food and goods supply chains collapsed, no municipal anything. Not enough to repopulate the earth and rebuild civilization, but enough to take care of him and his famalam until his crops and aquaponics and chickens will do the job. I didn't put hazmat suits or gas masks or horses. although for some, those things WOULD be on the list. Up until this year, I didn't put a lot of thought into the difference between a dust mask and an n95 and an n100.
(even if y'all think covid is a nothingburger, there could easily be a more serious pandemic.)
I know what you mean though, 10 yrs of freeze-dried food is unrealistic. Many preppers don't fully think things through. People who don't rotate being a prime example. Feeding your famalam with crops, chickens, and aquaponics is a good skill to have though, IMO. The list of things that could disrupt our "great sleep" is long, and most are unprepared for anything more than a week or two without JIT deliveries.

I think everyone has their graphic equalizer set differently, and that's OK. If everyone thought about what they want to prep for, and set up bug-out bags, rotating pantries/supply stocks etc, our famalams/networks/communities would be stronger. More prep means less store runs and possibly less people dying fighting robbing etc.
Even if SHTF never happens in our lifetimes, I believe the skills should be passed on to the next generations. We don't want to degenerate into a society of helpless manchildren who can't survive without amazon prime and uber eats.

Less-lethal protection is only an option if you don't have access to lethal protection. Less-lethal weapons were made exclusively so that police don't look as bad when they're breaking up riots, and they're not meant for self-defense unless you absolutely cannot afford to use a firearm.

You only got one life, and if some motherfucker is willing to threaten yours you should respond with overwhelming force to ensure that threat is never realized.

Except bear mace. That works way better for bears than bullets.

That is an 1880 Austria 2 Florin, from the reign of Emperor Franz Joseph I (1848–1916). Struck to commemorate the First Federal Shooting Festival on the occasion of the Austrian Confederation in Vienna, 1880.
Obv: Crowned Double Eagle in Coat of Arms.
Rev. Standing city goddess, Vindobona, with flag and coat of arms next to the sitting Austria.
Vienna mint, 36mm, I believe it's 90% so about 0.7144oz of silver. Obviously numismatic value would greatly overtake the silver weight value.

ty, and I agree. Koi in particular are extremely hardy, they can survive greater temperature variations than many other fish and can survive on a wide variety of food sources. I recommend duckweed, it grows on the surface, cleans the water, and is higher in protein than s o y. Humans can eat it too if need be.
Also, indoor aquaponics. Your fish fertilize the plants and the plants feed the fish. Closed-loop systems protect against pollutants/contaminants.

If you set bid limits and watch patiently, it is often possible to get stuff cheaper than it is to buy direct from their website. They move a decent amount of volume, so there are always plenty of auctions to take a stab at.
Scottsdale is kinda pricy in general, but they are a reputable mint with quality product. Most items are "proof-like".
I think they blur the line between gov't mint and private, they do a lot of official currency under contract to foreign gov'ts. Also many items are limited mintage, and the value does seem to increase.
Be patient, I think it would be possible to pick up Scottsdale stuff for less than $23/oz.
Good luck, anon!

With or without the lifestraw?
There's no reason you would ever get sick by using the life straw properly
Though the Sawyer squeeze is much better and more advanced filters
But even the lifestraw should prevent you from getting sick from fresh water in North America

... unless you mean you're just drinking straight from a river without any filters or boiling
In which case you're an idiot and probably have numerous types of intestinal parasites

That's not what the reply means. All of the bullion dealers I have seen charge you more if you use a credit card versus paying in cash (physical cash, personal check, ACH transfer, or wire transfer). The credit card companies charge merchants 2% or 3% of the total price of the transaction as a fee. The bullion dealers are not going eat that cost.

Not that guy but I have also drank unfiltered water plenty of times in Canada. As a general rule I won't drink anything that comes from a stagnant source like a lake, but in the mountains there is shitloads of streams almost all year round that are strictly from snow/glacier melt that I will drink from without any real concern.

I have also actually been tested for parasites after I got sick in Asia, and I didn't have any, so this is probably a pretty safe strategy at least in Canada.

Not so you can drink from a stagnant pool of green water covered in algae

Sure, but that doesn't mean there aren't prudent ways to do it. The further you are from the source, the more likely the water is to be contaminated, and ironically if you're looking at a creek that is more than ankle deep it is almost certainly lake-runoff, which also has significantly higher risk than a small stream that is pure melt.

If I am at camp or something I will filter or treat my water, but I have been drinking from small clear creeks at high altitude for about 20 years and have never had problems. If I don't know the area I will climb up to the source to make sure that it doesn't come from a lake/pool.

yeah, good call. im sooo ready to buy a house roghg now but crap tbis seems like time to wait a bit, ive seen some prices being reduced in some stuff already
im not expecting a crash in house prices unless the econo.y really goes down the toilet seriously

but i am thinking demand will cool and prices will drop a bit, as potential buyers hold of or cancel buying plans n3ecause of so many uncertainies

I'm starting to feel old. Weathered college during 2008. Bought our house 7-ish years ago. Little shithole that I thought we paid too much for - a 2 bedroom ranch for $150K in the city.
Across the street, some young kid bought for double the price last year. Yea, remodeled, but smaller property and a foreclosure flip.
Every time I see him or the house, I mumble that something's fucked up. There isn't an increase in salaries or population - it's all landlords and BnB landlords trying to float shit on credit. Take a look on a realtor's map of pre-foreclosed and foreclosed properties. It's alarming. Been that way for years.
Back to that shithole of a house I bought. A personal home isn't an investment. Listen to that. Your're always paying rent. Whether it be the mortgage company or the insurance or the county tax, or the $10,000 roof above your head depreciating, or the kitchen that needs remodeling ...... you're always renting. Best stick your equity (NOT INVESTMENT) into a smaller property than a bigger one and then invest your cash into an investment that'll make $$$

Based, home ownership is way more complicated than people understand, and no matter what you're living in you're always paying some kind of rent. Sure they'll dress it up one way or another but there's money leaving the bottom line every month. Home ownership as an investment is like putting all your eggs in one expensive, taxed, and cash flow negative basket. Just know what you're getting into, truly, before buying anything. Pic related opened my eyes on what's supposed to be the hottest real estate market in thew world.

good points. i understand some of it. even when i owned a house previously, yeah same story, endless constant costs associated with trying to hold and own a constantly depreciating asset. i started to hate it all the endless maintenance, caretaking involved.
now im renting a cheap but clean safe apt. and making good money. just saving saving saving.
kinda nice for now. i have no maintenance or upkeep bs to deal with
i think of buying loand sumilar to why i buy pms. a place to safely store wealth.
i know its not a profit making asset henerally speaking, but o dont know enough about investing in markets or other things to feel safe doing any of that yet. maybe in near future ill start though, if the world doesnt end

We're extremely biased here, maybe correctly so, but I'd say at minimum in our current environment I'd want 20% minimum. 1 to ride the asset price inflation of central bank intervention, and 2 as a hedge for economic instability from said central bank intervention as the metals do very well in that environment to either keep their buying power, or even increase in value from people piling in. It's about what you're looking for in the end, to preserve wealth, or to hedge against shtf, or to get rich.

I ll go back again tomorrow and see if i can trace the rest of the vein, this little 2 1/2 inch vein is carrying crazy gold values, hell i got about a grams worth from half a 5 gallon bucket of quartz today. I am hoping it keeps going on trend, but if it doesnt than what ever, theres still about 3 yards worth of the stuff exposed on surface. Best part, it wasnt claimed. No one but me has ever looked at this.

Roger that - you hear me and I hear you. Obviously the landlord has to make a profit over his 30 year mortgage, but given your life situation, it doesn't mean you have to go full blown 'keeping up with the Jones'.
Even if/when you get the next mortgage, doesn't' mean you have to keep up with the Jones. But you're hear and already know that.

Super complicated question. Gold always moves first, and has made it's first move while silver is beginning it's own first move towards 20. But you have to also believe that silver tracks gold, and if you do believe that then you'd also believe that silver moves harder than gold and so silver is more of a speculative metal. As well silver has industrial demand, and relatedly tends to make its; big move after recessions, not at the beginning or during like we are now. Pic related is silver ounces to buy one gold ounce, highlighted are recessions; it shows how cheap silver really is right now, as compared to gold. Gold itself is more of a store of value and safer play, but on it's own should still make a lot of gains nominally. If you're going to invest in the sector you have a lot of research to do
