Can someone explain to me what an Oracle is?

From what I understand, they automate smart contracts, which sounds like A.I.
Is this correct?

yes

I read Nick Bostroms book "superintelligence" and there is a whole section for oracles.
Thats actually why I got into chainlink. I think chainlink will have something to do with AI in the future

It's when a smart contract uses Sobol random numbers to assign probabilities to various smart contract inputs. Because of mean reversion, Oracles are able to sift through the bullshit and identify true-truth.

as if anyone actually cares.
I hold 13k Link and I don't even know what the fuck any of this crypto shit is about, it's just fantasy football to me

But the Oracles Bostrom talks about in that book are 'superintelligent', and have a whole set of safety issues attached to their use.

Is Chainlink really trying to build something like that, or are they using the term Oracle differently?

Also keep in mind if multiple smart contracts are communicating with each other, you can run genetic algorithms on the data consumed by Oracles to solidify many smart contracts into one, reducing transaction fees. Oracles are essentially supercomputers who do a lot of number crunching to eliminate fake data.

Okay bro here goes
> Chainlink is a price checker with a medianizer
> Threshold signatures is sergey taking pictures of adelyns brapper then posting them in gas threads on /aco/ to "save on gas"
> Mixicles is just ari juels favorite drink. He orders it every time the team pay for him to go to the Caymans
> Vrf is sergey personally rolling dice then uploading the results. He says "you can trust me"
> Service agreements were the big selling point but haven't been used so they were deleted. End of story.

Yes I know, but maby chainlinks oracles will be the start for the superintelligent ones.
The timeline would be spot on if you look at the book also.

At that time if chainlink really has its foot in the AI tech I'm sure my existence is a simulation.

Chainlink is using the word differently, it is not related to AI.
If you want to invest in AI projects just buy RLC

fetches data from APIs and feeds them to smart contracts

smart contracts = automated contracts executed by computer code instead of humans

decentralized oracles = necessary part of the automation
