Platinum is (I believe) 5-10x scarcer than gold
But palladium is about 30x more scarce than gold
Platinum was only so expensive in the past because people were using it for catalytic converters, then they decided that palladium was better for that use
Platinum has one of the highest melting points of all industrial metals though so I won't be surprised if that quality becomes highly desirable in the future

Depends on if you want a shotgun, handgun, or rifle.

For shotguns Remington 870 and Mossberg 500.

For rifles, Savage makes some really good bolt actions for a reasonable price. If you want an AR I really like the Ruger AR556. It's pretty cheap.

Pistols, you can't go wrong with a shield.
