no, one single action will not "cure depression"
but practicing a level of moderation in all things pleasurable in life will certainly help

The real source of your problem is idle time. You have nothing better to do or look forward to so you jerk off all the time.

Theoretically, if I constantly improve myself by reading, exercise, and working on goals can I moderately indulge in bad habits with little to no consequence? Would it be better to quit bad habits cold turkey?

in my personal experience, quiting cold turkey and accepting your circumstance is the best method of ending bad habits. Avoid all thoughts of "I'm going to wean myself off this habit" or "this will be my last x before quitting"

in terms of improving yourself while indulging, realize the mere act of doing so is better then not. If you build a weak tool, it will break at first use. If you build up a strong one, it can be considered unbreakable.

Ill paraphrase a bit here, but Epictetus, a Roman philosopher, said along the lines, "one cannot look to improve in external and internal affairs simultaneously. If he looks to improve in one area, he must neglect the other."

often times bad habits are an artefact of mundane lifestyle choices. fill this void with more fulfilling pursuits like reading, exercise, or a hobby like hiking, mountain biking, rock climbing etc.

I think you're right, I'm a neet and I get a lot done in the morning but I have absolutely nothing to do for the rest of the day so I turn to shitposting, porn and vidya.

Well start exercising for an hour like going for a walk/jog, clean yourself up by dieting and exercising, buy a new wardrobe and make a tinder account for some roasties.

In my youth, I used to take SSRI for my depression. It seemed to have worked. As a boomer now, I no longer take meds: exercise everyday (>1hr cardio) seems to hold it at bay. Porn seems to not matter at all, fwiw.
