Look into transistor density. For example, both TSM and Samsung have 5 nm processes, but TSM's is far superior because of transistor density. Samsung is getting a headstart on 3 nm but it will only have the same density as TSM's 5 nm for example. TSM's 5 nm is superior to Samsung's 5 nm.
