Thanks for the advice (from last thread), I think I'm gonna finish this tube of buffalos and move on to a different design, even though these are probably real I'd rather have something only one brand makes then something that have a million different variations, just to avoid confusion, maybe I'll do a tube of cyber rounds next

Right on.
Nothing wrong with the buffalos, I think it's a nice design (although some anons around here don't like 'em). You can often get them at a great price, cheaper than other, uglier coins. So you get a trusted familiar round for a bargain price.

Having said that, I don't buy 'em. For the same price I'd rather get cyber rounds.

I’ve got a lot of silver. But I recently bought 25oz worth of these APMEX Silver Round Mercury Dimes for a little over a grand. How badly did I fuck up? I do like fractional, and thought I’d pay the premium to have some stashed. They definitely went down in quality, though. The edges are sometimes non-existent and reliefs are not nearly as defined as in the photos online. These also say GSM so assuming they had GSM mint the more recent batches. What do you think, /pmg/?

I think I’ll do just that. Though I know that these are always worth what they are in silver, I mainly bought them for their beautiful design. Not one out of the entire opened tube I’ve inspected has a single coin with fully intact edges/ridges. Most have sharp impressions as well and don’t have the same thickness on one side of the same coin. They’re terrible. I’ll stop whining now. But thanks. >Reporting Requirements

>Tax liabilities on the sale of precious metals are not due the instant that the sale is made. Instead, sales of physical gold or silver need to be reported on Schedule D of Form 1040 on your tax return. Depending on the type of metal you are selling, Form 1099-B must be submitted to the IRS at the time of the sale, as such sales are considered income. Items that require such filing include $1,000 face value of U.S. 90% silver dimes, quarter or half dollars, and 25 or more 1-ounce Gold Maple Leaf, Gold Krugerrand, or Gold Mexican Onza coins. Gold and silver bars that are 1 kilogram or 1,000 troy ounces require the filing as well. American Gold Eagle coin sales do not require a Form 1099-B filing. The tax bill for all of these sales is due at the same time that your ordinary income tax bill is due.

I did weigh them - most read at 0.111oz and 0.112oz so actually slightly more than expected. But the APMEX 1/10th Silver Round (Mercury Dime) Replica’s are absolute shit now. At least the ones with the GSM mint mark. I hope APMEX will do right and see legitimacy in my gripe, even if I’m being picky. The ones I just received are inexcusably, unacceptably, terribly sloppy. The ones in vid below show the rounds they advertise and what I expected. No GSM mark. Perfect ridges/edges. Much higher relief. Even sides. Well defined text. It’s what I expected. It's even on apmex's site. Sry for spreading misinformation about the ASE's, I got that info from another anon who was lookin into it and they were wrong as shit apparently -_-

The $10,000 thing applies specifically to CASH transactions. Probably to deter money laundering.

> What happens if a customer purchases a $1000 face bag and decides to sell back $500 face in January and $500 face in February. Has he skirted the letter of the law? And even if he has not is there some kind of dealer obligation? Again not according to the Federal Form 1099B 24 hour rule.
Apparently if youre selling the coins on the IRS's specific list of taxable coins, if you were to sell 24 on the 4th of july and wait 24 hrs and sell one more youre free and clear. Lmao. Absolutely ridiculous.

accompanied by some sort of regulation that makes it so you can legally only store precious metals in some sort of specific container.

Like if the US legally labelled palladium as a strong carcinogen or radioactive substance that needed to be maintained in some sort of special box that there were a very limited supply of.

I'm trying to think how it could happen if they made it illegal to hold gold again, but the contracts wouldn't collapse because in that circumstance the government buys the gold off of you. even in a 'best case' scenario for PM's where fiat collapses entirely, there's no particular reason to do business with metals rather than yugioh cards or ankle socks. Just because something worked in the past does NOT imply it has to work in the future.

I'm mostly a stock guy, but those threads have been hit with some major retardation do to the high VIX, and now some heavy duty shilling due to all the froth.

No one wants to theorize about inflationary/deflationary forces, or the US government bailing out hedge funds and the shadowbanking sector that were caught on the wrong side of the trade.

it's the best conductor of electricity until it's exposed to air, then it tarnishes and becomes less conductive than copper.

it's a weird thing about electricity, it travels over the surface of the conductor, not the interior. And a tarnished surface doesn't work.

its largest industrial use 20 years ago was in photography. It was used in every roll of film produced in the world, and that was millions of tons of silver a year being dumped into landfills and down the drain.

that use dried up with the advent of digital cameras, but even when industrial use almost stopped, the price continued to go up. Because the price of silver has nothing to do with its real use.

Got 1oz gold made up of fractal gold coins, started with 1/10oz as it's hard to dump big cash in something you are new to. If I had to redo it 1/4 would be the smallest to go, but hindsight is always 20-20.
You should stack up on 1oz silver coins and save up for at least a 1/4oz gold coin

Anyone else reading into cycles of where all this helicopter money will go?

I’m a bit into everything own a few rentals, have a (((job))), run a small business but my biggest goal is always cash flowing real estate.

Obviously everything in real estate is waaaaay over valued at the moment so I’m looking into getting a good bit of silver at the moment to ride the wave of metals going up as inflation hits. Then scoop up real estate at discounts rates once this debt bubble hits.

I’m doing equities as well swing trading but I see that taking an overall dive in terms of value not (((dollar))) amount.

The only things changing in regards to mining right now are efficiencies. The overall strategies arent being revolutionized. Being more environmentally friendly and catching more of the material youre after doesnt magically increase what's in the ground. You might have an argument if you'd provided some information backing Pan Man's claim that there are vast numbers of abandoned silver mines because the cost:value makes them not worth running. Nobody is going to come from another country and magically start creating massive quantities of silver using more efficient tech inflating the supply and making silver/gold worthless lmao.

Sure 30 years ago when analog photography was in its prime that was 50% of silver's industrial use. We dont live in 1990, we live in 2020. Silver is used in healthcare, warfare, infrastructure/construction, and extensively in tech.

Coming out of the 2008 financial crisis silver went from $9/oz to $30-$50/oz. Gold went from $800 to $1800. I'm not sure what makes you think that the whole world needs to come crashing down in order for PMs to do well. I can give you guys the minfile links to dozens of old silver mines across the US and Canada that were abandoned because of the value of silver / lead dropped. The mines around the ghost city of Sandon BC for example have hundreds of thousands of tonnes worth of ore left but its not going to be easy to just up and get mining those deposits again. Getting a fully operational modern mine up and running requires hundreds of millions of dollars, major infrastructure and at least 3 years worth of economic study before it can begin. Its mostly due to costs associated with making sure the project is 100% feasible.
Reconstructing an existing mine and making it compliant to modern standards is even more of a headache, because you have to upgrade the existing workings, cleanup any major environmental messes and build new infrastructure.
>>20110671
I think the industries heading in a good direction. High metals prices, and all sorts of new tech are making accessing and locating ore easier than ever before. Just dont become a machine operator, everything is going autonomous. Engineers are in high demand, the two mines I ve worked at always needed another engineer on site. I'd be careful with platinum though. I have an ounce of it but really treat it like pure speculation. Plat is definitely rarer than gold, but it doesn't have a history of being used for money (even if it has all the traits that make for good money). Right now, the spot is entirely driven by industrial (catalytic/refractory/conductors) uses, and less than 10% of the Pt mined goes into bullion. I could be wrong, and we may see it climb above gold in value one day, but I treat it like a side bet.

this seems to be somehow equivalent to cryptos. everyone knows the one to rule them all isn't yet ready. it's also problematic that many market participants assume there will be a major sell off when crypto coin xyz hits a certain price.

thats exactly what the planning is meant to prevent, its to stop the project spiraling over budget and collapsing the company. It still does happen, but no where near as often as it used to. A good modern example of a screw up would be the Kitsault mine. The Kitsault project was build by a Japanese mining company and a western partner, the project was built and mining began but only lasted a year before the price of copper / molybdenum collapsed and it became to expensive to operate the site. I'll prob still keep stacking generics, but I'm going to take some of my PM stacking funds and put it into more unique interesting historical coins

yeah, i do like some of the ancient coins i have seen. Though some(most) of them are too,.. i don't know, primitive and rough looking?. i mean, its neat, but im not driven mad over them. I would like to have a few though, definitely. but I wouldn't see myself obsessed with collection many of them since i cant afford to go into high dollar antiques or real numismatics

better look into the definitely coming developments in the near and medium future and learn about the supply chains and providers. then you invest in those companies. everyone knows a lot of shit will be automated and a.i. will be a part of it. but what is it those companies doing well on a.i. and automation can't do properly now? what are tesla's biggest issues to become the leader resp. to stay on top? look at companies tesla is interested in.

There are 100g bars that you can break down into 1g pieces, but the premiums are insane. Most people buy one just in case. I think 1oz silver coins are small enough for a shtf scenario
