there's a lot of other hedges against the risks of holding fiat currency. a lot of other, better hedges like 1) property 2) mutual funds 3) commercial equipment 4) bitcoin. but by all means, if you are sitting comfy inside your house on the land that you own with your company matched 401k and roth ira maxed out, and you possess all the tools and equipment you would need to fix any minor problems with the house or car should they arise, by all means, buy 30 fucking pounds of silver

Its actually 40lbs. I should know since I bought 2 monster boxes and have been using them as impromptu weights since gyms are still closed in my commie ass state.

OP, buying PMs isn't a bad decision. But it's a low risk/low reward decision. Silver is essentially a savings account, you put wealth in and that wealth stays secure (whereas in fiat it's not even secure lol). But it's not really earning money on top of itself, maybe a 3x over years but that's mainly just relative to USD so negligible. If you're fine simply storing your wealth then silver is a great option, but I would recommend investing in things that will grow your wealth more substantially, at least with like 1/4 of your money.
