That's what I read, too. It's a "private" company creating gold-plated copper bars to use as collateral for loans. I have read nothing indicating that the fake bars were purchased from the Chinese government or from the Shanghai gold exchange.

It's unbelievable that the west has not turbocharged their efforts--if there are even efforts being made--to stop doing any sort of business with China. Nothing good is gained by doing business with a country that is utterly rotten to the core.

One other thing of interest to people here is that this Chinese incident is yet another example why the USD is highly unlikely to totally crater or be replaced by another reserve currency in the near future. To topple the US, there must be an entity that is capable of taking in trillions of dollars of foreign investment while also having a somewhat trustworthy legal system.

China's economy is arguably large enough, assuming it's not all fake, but no one in his right mind would trust Chinese money or Chinese laws.

At the moment, the only real contender to the US is the EU. However, the EU does not have EU bonds (it's got German, French, Greek, Spanish, etc. bonds and they're not all of the same quality) and it's questionable how much foreign investment the EU can handle.

I don't think the gubment gold is fake, you don't mess with the central power down there. Moreover most of their central bank's bullion directly come from their mines, i believe gold mines in China aren't allowed to sell outside the country. So it's very easy for the CCP to constantly verify the minting process.

But everything else (like those collateralized bars)? A good chunk of it is surely fake, if not most of it. That statement is contradictory. Unless it's a fraud (and you know it's going to be a fraud being that it comes out of China), the Chinese cannot release a decentralized cryptocurrency that is the reserve currency for international trade settlement yet somehow have control of the global economy.

Contradiction aside, the one thing that the CCP will never cede is control over everything. You see it in the "private" Chinese companies, you see it in the "joint" ventures foreign companies are required to enter to do business in China, you see it in the capital controls China erects to prevent money from fleeing. There is no way in hell the CCP will ever have a decentralized currency. If the Chinese yuan, digital or not, becomes the primary world reserve currency, it will be fully controlled by the CCP.

Read up on how to actually find gold, there are many books on the subject of gold panning / prospecting. Know the different metals / minerals gold hangs out with. The more info you have the better your chances of hitting it big. The only other equipment i would recommend is a "sniffer" bottle, its used to suck up fine gold in pans. You can find them in drug stores. Try and find prospecting info based on your local area specifically, it will help a ton.

Here's a tip. Stack the coins on a table and then put the tube over the coins and press down on the tube. It's much easier and neater that way (the orientation of the coins will be consistent if you're into that sort of thing.)
