You can tell the machine whether you are testing pure silver (0.999 or so), sterling, 1964 or before, and pre-194x or so (US silver coins had some variation in the earlier days because metallurgy was not as advanced). You'll be able to do conductance tests but due to the shape of the sycees, the Sigma will not be able to help you with the expected size of the silver. My understanding is that the Sigma's sizing really only works for discs (coins and rounds) and rectangles (bars, including bars that have a trapezoidal profile).

Historically the ratio of gold to silver is around 30:1 in modern times, currently it is right around 100:1 so it would seem silver is very undervalued at this time as a 30:1 ratio would mean silver would be right around $60 an ounce.
