This daily general is for supporters of the cypherpunk ideology to hang out and help noobies learn about Monero, the most fungible cryptocurrency. A cypherpunk is any activist advocating widespread use of strong cryptography and privacy-enhancing technologies as a route to social and political change.

We believe that Monero is the logical continuation of Bitcoin because it offers superior privacy, leading the way to many potential use cases. Discussion points include rising Dark Net adoption, news articles about Monero, daily transaction totals, and new technology updates to the Monero project.

Moonboy posting is discouraged, however price speculation and TA is fine.

Nope. However they are doing post-quantum research. I'm pretty confident that as we get closer to quantum computing, we will have ways of fighting against it.
See link: https://ccs.getmonero.org/proposals/research-post-quantum-monero.html

I've never used changenow, so I don't know. Morphtoken does work. I also recommend xmr.to if you want to send Monero but the recipient only has Bitcoin (the service auto swaps Monero for Bitcoin and send Bitcoin, thereby keeping you anon).

A simple solution is forcing another hop that is non viewable to the sender and receiver
Of course with current arch it would increase txn costs
But seeing what the team has done so far with ring ct dandelion and randomx i have confidence if it becomes an issue they will have an even more elegant solution

To be a cypherpunk is to advocate for a return to the egalitarianism that predates modernity, the agricultural revolution, and the tool age. Through cryptography, we can give the power back to the people. The most significant way to do this is through the establishment of a medium of exchange that cannot be traced, thereby making equal, in principle, every economic action made by mankind. No actors can be barred from using this medium of exchange nor can their transactions be barred for any reason. The will of the individual will once again be the driving force of human society. If you’re still reading these threads, keep following the bread crumbs. We make them obvious, but the rationale is not intuitive. With time, you too will agree that Monero (XMR) is our first attempt as a species to return to the egalitarian principles that preceded landed society. Buy XMR, spend XMR, save XMR, and for god’s sake don’t tell anyone about your personal XMR. Godspeed, Anons.

Could a hash rate limit to solve the problems of quantum computing overtaking the network? I mean, currently, we kneecap incoming superhashing GPUs and ASICs through our algorithm of choice.

Tools were our undoing, for the time being, because they allowed entities to leverage society, resources, and tech against individuals who don’t have access to or can’t rely on those tools. Cryptography levels the playing fields by technologically leveraging information and economic power to the point where even the strongest union of mankind cannot usurp the will of the individual. Join us on the journey of a lifetime, Anons. We’re bringing free will back into the world one step at a time.

Quantum computing would destroy the entire internet. Like, it's not just a Monero problem. It's a problem for basically any type of encryption. I haven't gone too down the rabbit hole with researching it, but there are a lot of doomsday type of scenarios that are really interesting.
Regarding Monero, you could theoretically derive private keys by just knowing a public address or a key image, or you could figure out which transactions are real and which are mixins. The article I posted goes into more detail.
The good news is we have time before this becomes a reality and the thing with internet privacy/security is that it is an every day battle. So as quantum computing becomes more of a reality, defenses will be created to work around this.

It has been proven mathematically that quantum computers could easily break asymmetric encryption as it only needs to find some prime factors.

The AES-256 Cipher seems to be the best bet for the internet. Though, I doubt it could be applied to a blockchain due to the nature of the keys used in its encryption.

>>19988915
yeah and because Monero relies on its obfuscation, it is more complex so there are more security exploits. It's definitely something that will need to be concerned with long term, which is why research is going into it now.
It definitely isn't the most concerning issue with Monero however.

one interesting theory to consider is that because the lowering block reward is so steep, there is an oversupply of Monero right now. The thing is because transactions are indeed going up, we will soon hit a breaking point where the demand and the low supply will really do a number on the price. It may be another year before we see significant action. Who knows?

Since version 0.15 carbon chameleon there a new RPC payment feature was implemented into the cli demon/wallèt: A remote node may request a payment in form of randomX hashes by the light walllet. Too bad that still monerujo and cake wallet have ignored this. Maybe they have issues that Google/Apple will remove them from the appstore for "mining crypto currency".

it's because you need to sync the blockchain. cake and monerujo are light wallets.
>>19994949
outside of pump and dumps the only real consistent crypto is Bitcoin with everyone following it. I am hopeful that Monero's price will rise because of rising transactions and actual use case. In addition to the oversupply of Monero, the obfuscated ledger definitely plays a role as well.
