You can see this in healthy people who overeat, we become slightly chubby but it's a totally different phenotype. I've seen obese people who hardly eat anything, and many obese people look like they're carrying sacs of water rather than normal fat.

There are even published studies confirming that sterile guts make you thinner--mice who were kept germ-free literally stayed thin, and produced more heat via brown fat, than normal mice. Obvs nobody has a sterile gut, but it seems undeniable that gut bacteria would play a role
