Rand’s philosophy, Objectivism, has some shortcomings in that it doesn’t recognize that people are genetically programmed to be social beings. Perhaps later in life people cannot reconcile what their “genetic programming” is telling them to do and what Objectivism says they should do and so they abandon Objectivism. If you used the basic tenets of Objectivism, that there are no contradictions in reality, then one should try to figure out what’s causing the contradiction and “fix it”. I guess that most people can’t do this and so they abandon Objectivism in favor of a philosophy riddled with contradictions, but at least they’re socially accepted contradictions.
