I've been an all-in marine since 2017. But I have to admit, the past month or two I've started dipping my feet into physical silver. I was just diverting my usual DCAs over to silver for a while, but the past week I've actually been peeling off little bits of my LINK stack, 50 LINK at a time, and buying 10oz silver every couple days with it.

Is this based because I'm playing both ends of the market (total civilization collapse on one end, 4IR on the other end)? Or cringe because I'm selling LINK at less than $1000 per token?

I don’t see PMs as anything other than a fun diversion, it’s cool to own a coin or bar of metal but it just sits there. I don’t think society is going to collapse or that PMs will appreciate in value so much that it’s worth taking the risk to invest in them, especially when my capital is limited. If I had a lot of cash then I’d consider diversifying maybe 10% into metals

i was all in but in recent weeks i’ve diversified into defi coins

My thinking has been that I can divert less than 1% of my LINK stack into PMs and accumulate more gold/silver than 99.9% of humans on earth own or will ever own. It doesn't meaningfully affect my capacity to make it with LINK, meanwhile there is a narrow slice of timelines where fiat collapses, crypto goes bust, but we don't totally fall into mad max anarchy. In which case, gold and silver probably re-assume their role as dominant world currencies, and ten ounces of silver can end up buying you an estate and a barn full of slaves.

It's basically very little cost for very meaningful potential upside if a certain number of SHTF checkboxes end up ticking themselves in the near future.

This thought process is so cringe and pointless to me

I guess, I think probabilistically that outcome is so unlikely that I can’t justify holding PMs specifically for that purpose

It may not make sense depending on your stack size. I have enough that selling off 1% of my stack can buy me 100 ounces of silver or so, so the equation reads as massive upside with little downside. Charts like pic related scare the living shit out of me.

If I had like a 5k stack I'd probably just batten down and hope the best, since hedging against economic doom would eat into my make-it potential too much.
