Well you could argue things were overpriced already in jan, after being up 40% for the year, and expensive compared to historical valuations, especially considering GDP growth wasn't even "good" before corona, if the government calculated inflation property we were probably in a recession. Now we have double digit unemployment, fed predicting -6.5% growth, and stocks are pretty much at or higher than they were in jan.

Imo people have lost all fear of capital preservation. Look at the nasdaq after 2000, it dropped 75% and took a decade to recover. Most investors buying this top can't even fathom a drop like that for so long they think a 20-30% crash for a month and its "back to normal."

>> No.19647078

>>19646769
yes but you must be patient. Been investing for 12 years and I've averaged about 60k per year into my accounts (brokerage and IRAs). Mostly got here through indexing. I gained today due to boomer gold, treasuries and bond funds. Lately I've been into options and of course you can get to a similar number quite faster if you don't mind risk. Didn't have to think about indexing (I would literally long in every few months and buy $5k of SPY/XLK and it got me good (~14%/year) returns. I'm playing the long game anyway; my investment timeline is ~40-50 years so idc if returns are not stellar. Compound interest and reinvesting dividends is crazy powerful and if you invest $10k/year for 40 years you be very wealthy indeed.

>> No.19647084

>>19647038
>There's plenty of space up
On what basis? There was nothing left to buy in February. Now there is even less underpinning any of the prices of the indexes. There is space in small and midcaps but the flight was FASTEST out of them again.

TQQQ can only really blow up if QQQ blows up which will never happen.
Margin costs a lot more than TQQQ expense ratio.
While TQQQ is not meant to track QQQ better than at the intraday level, it's been able to remain very accurate long-term, historically.
>>19647558
I'm not yet buying the V-shaped recovery shtick. If I had a good system on TQQQ I would play it intraday as it's meant to be. Meanwhile, I'm looking for the market to stabilize before I get into TQQQ. My understanding is that the only real killer with this strategy is large loss events, and particularly in cataclysms like y2k bubble that may cause almost 100% drawdowns (but that's no longer possible because of circuit breakers, though a probably ~75% drawdown is still painful). Thus keeping reasonable watch on news should be enough to get excellent results from that play on a long-term horizon.

Hey guys I have a favor to ask - as a European, I’m not very familiar with US politics and I’m trying to estimate whether Trump will be re-elected (and which US stocks to buy/sell accordingly). Can someone tell me if something major is missing from my makeshift analysis?
In my experience, people rarely vote based on policy issues but based on actual events that occurred during the legislative period (especially the recent ones) and how governments and politicians addressed them. As the incumbent, the focus will be mostly on Trump. Here’s how I see it.

What the left thinks people will remember about Trump:
>Kept downplaying Covid for months and made increasingly wrong predictions about the spread
>Gave incoherent, borderline dangerous medical advice
>Made some poor choices in crisis management
>Failed to prevent big corps from driving out small businesses in the wake of Corona
>Sent the military to “kill and oppress black people”

What people will actually remember about Trump:
>Put a travel-ban in place against Corona weeks earlier than other nations
>Told people repeatedly that they should make up their own mind about which medical advice to take
>Urged Democrat Governors to restart the economy when the crisis subsided
>Sent every working citizen a 1200 USD check of “Trumpbux”
>Sent the military to prevent killings and stop looters

I estimate the probability of a Trump re-election to be in the 65-75% range, with an upwards trend the longer the riots continue. Thoughts?

He most likely will be relected. Very rare to see a president not win a second term. Few cases of that in past elections but still has happened. But markets will continue to pump as they have past 2-4 years. So just buy SPY, QQQ and some other meme techs and you should be good.

The market is easy. Stop thinking "will the market V recovery". You've already failed.

Fuck the V recovery memes, L memes, they are for brainlets. Look at the market via sector and via stock and see what each will do. Plenty will reach past ATH by eoy. Plenty will stay shit.

If you try to predict a V or X or Z you're losing braincells because that's why avg IQ people are trying to do.

Same with inflation.

Inflation is relative. Each stock will recieve a diff % of the inflation. It's not even. Inflation depends on who has more money. Whose money inflated. What they purchase.

Start looking at things from this perspective and you will 5x by EOY with simple trades.

Honestly not even worried about it. Considering it blew up 100% one day. I'm not afraid of these dips. The only thing I'm mad at myself for is not transferring the rest of my savings in and buying at 4.5 for another thousand shares or so. The dividends look nice, I don't even know if I'll sell at all, this might be a stock I dump my other investments into once they grow more before IVR recovers. the fed is committed to years of easy monetary policy. Trump and Biden would both be good for big business. As long as it's not Bernie or Warren, which would never happen, stocks go up.

That's all that matters. If you want to talk about something else, there's other boards for that.

I think there's a very good chance of that. They didn't raise rates in the 70's until inflation was already out of control. They might just massage the data or something first. Or increase agricultural subsidies and other cost of living subsidies to keep inflation limited to asset prices, education costs, and healthcare costs.

0. I implore you to do your own research but here in the moment here are a few pointers.

1. Dividend / Share Price = Yield. Look for dividends between 2-4% Any lower and you are basically looking at a growth stock. Any higher and there is probably trouble afoot. Never stop at the yield though.

2. Dividend / Earnings Per Share = Payout Ratio. This is a measure of how much of every dollar the company earns is paid out as a dividend. Look for Payout Ratios around 30-50%. Any less and again you're more looking at a growth stock and any more and you will see less and less potential for company growth.

3. You want the dividend dollar amount to grow and you want it to outpace inflation. Look at the Cash Flow Growth and EPS Growth of the stock to get a good idea of how it promises to perform.

4. Reinvest your dividends when you can. Every time that the company pays out their dividend reinvest it to buy more shares. The more shares you own the more dividends you are entitled to. It compounds upon itself.

5. There is nothing wrong with investing in index funds and ETFs for dividends as well.If you are investing for the long term and your goal is not to sell then ultimately you are buying the dividend and a broadly diversified index that pays out a good dividend can be just the ticket if it's just the dividend you want.

6. If you hold the right kinds of stocks and ETFs they can become "qualified" after 60 days which means that the dividend you collect is taxed as Long Term Capital Gains (USA) rather than as regular income. Good and tax efficient.

7. Look also into REITs and Bonds which are like cousins to dividend stocks. This allows you to diversify your passive income sources.

Much better than bagholding a slow growth company for decades to "get your money's worth". The yield rates of the companies that don't screw over people when times get bad are 3% are lower. You can get A-Grade corporate bonds with higher yields than that.

> Dividend Yield versus Bond Yield
Bond yields are based on the bond issued and their absolute value is immutable. Dividend yields are based on the share price but are a fixed amount. An individual bond's coupon does not change in value - that takes buying a different bond. A stock's dividend can grow with time.

> Reinvesting Profits vs Dividend Reinvestment
While the former can result in higher prices per share the latter results in owning more shares that all grow.

>An individual bond's coupon does not change in value - that takes buying a different bond
Bonds can be bought or sold on secondary markets and are particularly attractive during economic downturns hen blue chip profits would be down anyway. Some of these A-Grade corporate bounds are being sold for 20% capital profits.
