It already happened, YTD is green for half of shit. The market can stay retarded much longer than we can stay solvent - Memevesting 101. We need to see the credit market get rattled, and I mean really RATTLED. Best bet is a revenue shock from a second shutdown, but twice today some anon (shitposting or not) has sperged out saying to exit all markets. It seems like larp, but I'm already 50% cash, 35% bonds, 15% hedged equities and tempted to believe that the crash is imminent and it's going to be for something turbo stupid. Something like a bomb at the NYSE or national blackout or some /pol/ happeningfaggot retardation. Something REALLY fucking dumb.

Wait, ok. So if I buy AAPL at $340 and sell it at $240, but then immediately buy it back, I can't claim the capital loss because it's a wash sale. But then if it climbs back up to $340, and I sell it, is it considered capital gains? I would think it'd be calculated as a break-even.

Yeah, but it's all based on sentiment. Nothing is there. This shit is still reversible. I don't think bad Q2 earnings will trigger anything bigger than 15% down by themselves, just a correction, but I think it will mark the beginning of a true bear market, followed by a steadier recovery. I agree with you that a true crash will need to be preceded by something much bigger.

I didn't have enough money to start really investing until April, and some of my early picks were dumb or just too early when I should have picked quicker recovering things first, so I'm hoping I can still get close to the yearly recovery with SSL and some other low risk high reward positions. What I don't get is, let's say you make like $500k in a YOLO. You could pay 40-50% of that in estimated taxes so you don't get the underpayment penalty, but that assumes that you don't YOLO the gains and then lose them all. Just because you make $500k in one YOLO doesn't mean you can't also lose $500k in another YOLO sometime later in the year, setting you back to $0 or even negative capital gains. So I really would have no idea what my taxable income *should* be at the end of the year because it's so unpredictable.

Most people are poor so their opinions don't matter. Trump clearly doesn't care about the economy because he was so proud of the helicopter money initiative that he demanded his name be put on the checks. He's been in lockstep with every Fed move over the past few months which have ensured economic damage in order to prop up the market bubble.

Poor people care about the economy because they need that shit to eat. Rich people care about the market because the economy doesn't impact them in the slightest. Because rich people control the political institutions, the only thing that is to be expected are pro-market, anti-economy policies such as we've seen for the past century and especially in the past three decades.

If you think the Fed won't gut the economy to prop up the market, you clearly weren't paying attention in March.

I understand that you pay taxes in the net capital gains. I pay whatever taxes I owe. What I find conflicting is the fact that you're supposed to pay-as-you-go through withholding and/or estimated tax payments otherwise there's a penalty. There is no way to know your estimated tax due when you're a degenerate option gambler. You could be at +$500k in June but -$500k by December, in which case it's a good thing you didn't pay any estimated tax on your June earnings.

Ah. There we go. None of this should come as a surprise to anyone invested in airlines at the moment. The bullish thesis is about speed of recovery rather than the hit airlines took and will continue to take while demand is below pre-corona levels. Article says much the same thing in the final paragraph:
>The trends will have to keep getting slightly less bad for the stocks to move higher, even if the industry remains quite a way from profitability.

As for tomorrow, my guess is more selling at open then bullish response again similar to today's pattern.

it's shit. I just inherited a bunch of US bonds. I wanted to cash it all out, and put it in the market (just like Jerome wants me too). Safest place for your money that's not cash. The only place better might be preferred shares but I don't know the space well enough to advocate for them. I think active funds that focus on A grade but have some BBB will do better than passive etfs like QLTA which might shrek you if the credit rating bubble takes a shit. Muni funds are a little scary because the munis are at risk of bankrupcy, but if you know good areas that will stay solvent, pick them to lock yields. There will be a "rush to quality" especially for things that yeild over 3% or so, and shit like investment grade bond funds that don't have a heavy hand in AA or A grade, will have to sprint for those former AA and A grades if it hasn't happened already. Preferreds are nice because the odds of the bulk of companies that offer them cutting those dividends is likely low, also the premium paid over the price they can be pulled out for won't be too high. Personally i'd stick to bond mutuals to be able to accept more risk. The worst case scenario is a huge rate hike by the FED or potentially a freak out for equities and yield, but the TINA argument is shit, and inflation won't get felt for a while. Longer dated has more risk, but most corp funds seem to have an average length of something like 6 or 7 years, which should be more than acceptable.

Just look at the civil unrest in the streets right now. You think hedge fund managers or retail investors like me, the "smart" money who made >20% since March want to just wait this out for maybe another 5-10% in the next 3 months? Nah.

clarification: The same in terms of demand for storage. There is a continuing demand for iron. The tankers will be in use long term when oil prices go up because they're going to have to even out the shock and long term effects of supply glut.
