Are eagles worth the premium over generic silver?
I usually try to go for closest to spot but at this point you can't even get a 100oz bar for less than 21$/oz. If your'e already paying $22 for buffalos it might be worth $26 for eagles. I can't justify a 15% premium on something that isn't a premium item.

FWIW I heard that if you order from Scottsdale through their official ebay it'll get shipped right away.
I've never done it, just what I heard. I think it's messed up, but maybe I'm just salty because the coins I want to order from them aren't sold through their ebay store.
Otherwise I'd try it.

You're right, that's definitely the case for all of their buy-it-now stuff, I have yet to see anything buy-it-now that's not more expensive than going through their website.
However, it looks like sometimes you can swoop in on the ending-soonest auctions and get bars for $20-$21/oz. Seems like it's mostly the 2x10oz, 5x10oz and 10x10oz auctions. I'm guessing they have an insider bid it right up to $20-$21/oz though.

What was that?

My order from Scottsdale took about a month. Since they were designated as essential over the virus, a lot of their silver processing has gone towards that since Silver is heavily used medically including ventilators. Throw in increased orders on top of a very limited staff dedicated to personal orders and you get long delays sadly.

Yeah I guess I shouldn't throw accusations around like that. I'm just speculating. I've been watching their ebay stuff for a while now though, and it always gets bid right upto the same amounts. Could be just people like me trying to swoop in and get a reasonable deal during these crazy premiums. I don't see how they would get caught if they were to do it carefully though. Separate accounts, CCs, addresses, etc... hypothetically.
Again, I don't want to bear false witness. But I've yet to see their stuff go for $19/oz or less.

I order through their ebay and get all my shipments within 3 days. Their ebay account was how they started and holds most of their customers. They will process ebay orders daily, and leftover time is there for the main site weekly. My last shipment I got my 5x 10oz bars in 3 days.

It is worth it to know that you can actually get cheaper prices on there ebay, just don't spend more bidding than normal. I'll usually get $20 knocked off the premium for my purchases. I just check their site, set my price limit for the item and don't bid over my set limit.

o I love that little bar! I love those sorts of older style cast ingots.

Ok, Nevada has some incredible mineralization belts, places like Virginia City and dozens of other smaller camps that only lasted a few years. For placer gold, your options are limited, as its often whats called "dry wash" ground where there is limited water. Hard rock is plentiful but often still owned by private holders. Use https://thediggings.com/ to find info on your states regs and mineral hotspots close to you. I can go further into details but it gets complicated fast.

I wouldnt suggest doing it from an active claim, if it looks like someones working the ground you could get shot for claim jumping. If its an abandoned site that has stayed abandoned for 20+ years no ones going to give a dam about you running off with a truck load. Find a nice mid value abandoned mine on that website, check the last time someone registered work, and if its nothing recent go for it. There are literally hundreds of them out there.

There are for sure people who "high grade" old mines but I dont think they do it to make a living, most of its rock hounds or hobby prospectors looking for cool samples.

Only busy bodies would care if your digging in the middle of nowhere. If your going to go have a look around some of these old mines, I implore you to not go underground. Have a look for the "ore bin" structure. It will be where the highest value ore will be found. Watch out for open workings near surface.

great questions.

for panning, I suggest looking at Askjeffwilliams on Youtube, he can explain all the processes of looking for placer better than I can on a single post.

As for figuring out if a hard rock site is worth continuing to explore early on, its mostly based on assay results and technical info. Usually your looking at an area because something showed up on magnetic mapping or because there were previous showings discovered nearby. The more guys look at the ground, the easier it becomes to determine if its worth keeping. I could go further but i ll probably start gabbling technical gibberish.

Welcome friend. Is it still good to buy Skeena, Pretium, and did I miss the Pure Gold boat or is it still good to jump on that one?

I am interested in your thoughts on any other miners. I saw you mention Xinmen and someone else, forgot but I wrote it down somewhere ill have to look. Or any other miners like Alio and Hecla or First Majestic. I did see those mentioned a lot weeks ago.

Or any mining related stocks not just miners in specific. Or ETF's if that is your thing. NUGT for example. Or Oil in general.

Just looking to get some stocks in instead of buying more physical which is what I want to do but I do not mind going for some growth to use the profits to buy even more physical, but I dont mind losing it either. I understand the game here is risky.

Skeena and Pretivm are still good buys, Pure Gold have been busy and just started drilling again recently for underground targets the surface drilling was having trouble reaching.

For other companies I would suggest looking into Artemis Gold, they just bought a major project from New Gold for major cash. Xinmen is a junior that is currently trying to build a land portfolio that they can explore and than sell off. One I would look into but be cautious of is Nova Gold, they have had a few issues recently that investors are concerned about, they have been in the news recently because of it.

There is a lot out there, if you want better info than what I can provide, go have a look over at Mining.com's news section.

I cant really get to deep into the stocks unfortunately, there are too many to look at once and the ones I know about keep changing hands / names, its not my area of expertise anyway, I just keep track of what the miners themselves are up to.

Any local coin shop worth their salt also gets coins straight from the mint, as a matter of fact many individuals form their own llcs that imply they are bullion dealers just to be able to also buy from a mint. Bullion dealers can make a lot of money doing what they do, and they often do not find it worth their time to let a fake coin make it's way into their inventory, first off it's a serious felony to sell fraudulent silver and if it's a coin minted by the u.s. treasury/mint it's a crime that the secret service deems worthy of investigating. Pretty much all coin shops have instruments that are able to tell fakes from the real coins. It's pretty easy to tell if a coin is fake with simple test that do not require any damage to be done to the coins/bars. And for large deals they meticulously validate each and every single piece of bullion .

Generic bullion will only ever be sold for spot or less, maples will usually hold a small premium. Nothing wrong with generic bullion, though; especially when youre stacking for value.

The TD bars don't look any better, desu. I figure it's a bank that isn't going under unless Canada goes under, but still. I like the idea that RCM is respected worldwide, or at least they are advertised as such (same with American Eagles and shit).

Well, I plan to stay in Canadia for the rest of my natural life, so I'd only be selling off the PMs here. One other question though: if I have the choice of buying gold or silver, is there any reason not to buy gold? Probably a loaded question, but it's something that has been bothering me lately. For instance, the ratio doesn't have any purpose unless I buy silver at a high ratio and transfer it to gold in a low ratio, but I'd be losing on the premium if I did so, and it would only be worth it if the ratio change was enough to equal or offset the premium losses for the sell and buy. Dollar cost averaging. You set aside a monthly amount you're going to invest into stocks, or gold, or silver, and you spend that much each month or quarter or whatever. Say you set aside $800 each monthly paycheck. That 800 is ear marked for PMs, with say, 500 for gold and 300 for silver.

Some months this gets you a lot of metal, some months less, but it forces you to keep doing some buy in, and takes a lot of the guesswork out of investing.

I don't understand. Why not just keep buying gold? In other words, if the purpose of buying silver is to leverage it into gold when the ratio is better than when you bought, why not just buy gold from the get-go? Is gold going to go lower than the natural inflation of fiat currency to the point where it will in fact be better to buy silver in order to convert to gold at some unknown point? I need clarity on the strategy.

>>19628773
That makes sense, but I do that already with my investments into stocks and shit. Granted, I'm not far into it: I buy into mutual funds because I can't do the due diligence minute-to-minute that I'd have to in order to do it on my own. With PMs, they're entirely new to me as a %, so the question to me is whether or not to just go full into gold and forget the silver, because at the moment I can't find a justification if the whole point of silver is to have something that gets me into gold in the future. In other words, the reason to diversify into PMs is already tenuous...but to further diversify between gold and silver seems unjustifiable.

The idea of buying silver now instead of gold is that you don't care what the actual $ values are, just the ratio of the prices to each other. No matter what the prices are today, if I bought 100 oz of silver at a silver to gold ratio of 96:1, I'm holding until that ratio is sufficiently narrowed down, say to 60:1. If it goes up instead, I just wait. Once it hits 60:1, even if the actual dollar values are wildly different than they are now, I can still sell off my silver and use that money to buy more gold than I would have been able to had I sold the silver at a ratio of 96:1.

Silver has always been cheaper than gold in history, but not THIS much cheaper. The US constitution had an enforced ratio of like 15.5:1. Its insane that you can buy either 96oz of silver or one of gold right now. Money spent on silver is still safe in the sense that its not like its going to go to zero like some shitty pennystock. But its making a bet that you're moving out of the metal down the road into gold, which is what everyone wants.

You can go all gold, sure. But putting some into silver is pretty a low risk investment for a sensible chance of 'upgrading' in the future.

>>19629056
What you say makes sense. Has it happened historically? In other words, is there precedent for this kind of change in ratio, and did anyone profit from it?
I read the pic you posted, but already some of it doesn't make sense. For instance, there's a claim that '90% above ground silver is already mined'. Is this statistically confirmed (and how can it be unless we know how much silver is in the earth to begin with)? Furthermore, how do we know that silver is finite (given that we'd likely start mining asteriods before we exhaust silver and gold on Earth). I can accept the hypothesis that the banks are running a con job regarding silver, and that the average person doesn't do any research into this. Similarly, it's easy to accept the materialism argument, however that could be explained easily by simple consumerism and how it generates profits: if you have pre-determined obsolescence in products, then people are forced into upgrading due to lifestyle necessity.

But the general concept of 'there's a conspiracy to prevent the average joe from holding their wealth in the only stable currency in the history of the world so that they'll be screwed when hyperinflation inevitably kicks in' requires quite a lot of fundamental occurrences to take place.

For instance: is the only reason that major companies, banks, and billionaires do not have the vast majority of their wealth in PMs in order to avoid tipping off the average consumer to the ploy? Because if the inevitable crash were to occur, we'd see these billionaires buying up all the PMs to store their wealth, which would drastically increase the desirability and thus make the price shoot up, well beyond the means of anyone else anyway. Why wait? There's no reason to artificially keep the prices for Silver low if the pleb won't be able to afford them anyway when the shit hits the fan. Help!

That part of the post is the writing messing up I assume. The problem with talking about unmined reserves is that it runs on the basis of current technology, and even our deepest operations aren't anywhere close to the mantle. There really is a limit in terms of mining depth for human survival based on heat and pressure, and beyond that limits to what unmanned machines can do. The thing with silver mining is that a large portion of it comes as a byproduct of base metals mining, so when the price of silver is low (like it is now) you can't afford to run the mines in Mexico and Peru that purely extract silver. We also can make very good estimates about planet compositions, and we do it for places beside earth all the time. Its not really a question of when we run out of silver in teh ground, but when we run out of silver we can actually reach, and when we run out of silver ore that it makes financial sense to reach.

As far as making more and more products that need silver, I don't really buy it since we recycle PMs out of electronic scrap. But you better start believing in conspiracy theories dude, you live in one. Any reasonable society would have hung the people who started the Federal Reserve. Money printing is already theft against your cash savings, why not just drop their money to zero as the prestige of the vanishing act?

As to the last point, its funny you should ask that, since JPM ate up a fucking massive share of the physical silver starting in the aftermath of subprime. They have been buying it up, while keeping price low, so you don't catch on, and they can get it on a discount.

It's funny about how broke the world is...it seems from my point of view that every country owes another country, with none of them actually having a solid ledger (except the aforementioned Norway).

So basically it comes down to this:

1) Gold is a solid investment no matter what.
2) Silver is a solid investment if you buy low and sell high in order to get into more gold.
3) The ratio only matters if you're doing 2).
4) There is no predictability for the ratio, so you have to guess in order to make a profit.
5) if the world ends, you're better off than anyone who hasn't put some of their wealth into PMs.

Is that about right?

>>19629344
Fair points all around. Is the strategy then for the average pleb like me to buy my worth in silver in hopes of....silver running out and the value skyrocketing and then selling? Why I would I sell if I don't know when the highest point would be? Wouldn't the natural emotional reaction be, 'it'll go higher tomorrow, so wait to sell'...

Because there are about 170 'paper' ounces of silver in existence, being traded in EFTs, for every single real ounce of metal. That means the spot price is primarily dictated by silver that is yet to be mined. And they own enough of these to basically short silver, keeping the price suppressed while only they, and a bunch of neets on 4chan go for physical delivery. Remember, while you're supposed to report holdings, you're supposed to obey the law all time too, and being that rich means you can do a lot of non-reporting.

Guess what happens when everyone with EFTs decides they want to cash out for their silver bars?

>> No.19629483

The idea is more or less to get the same spending power as gold by buying up the undervalued silver to gold ratio, you wouldn't want to trade your silver for more gold at the peak silver to gold ratio. Best thing to do would be to buy land or other assets so when the ratio inevitably fluctuates or gets manipulated then you have a better chance of retaining that spending power.

>silver vs gold
Silver and gold are considered real money. Gold has historically held it's value as real money, the king of kings. However, the scales have the potential to tip because silver's industrial uses are incredible, it's mined at 10:1 ratio to gold but hte price is closer to 100:1, and it's faced very real price manipulation at the hands of JPM. Basically a perfect storm for silverbug speculation. Gold is reliable but I think it has a much weaker industrial outlook. If you want pure reliability just go gold. If you want to take your chances on something that's reliable AND has the potential to moonshot get some silver.

Do you mean ETF?
If so, delivery can only be taken on VERY large amount of PMs. Buying into an ETF for PMs should be short term speculative, not long term.

>> No.19629547

>>19629472
Yeah, I've never understood the point of ETFs; you don't hold the metal in your hand, and there doesn't seem to be any guarantee that they can be traded for the real material. Considering though that if your hypothesis is correct, that they might, '...do a lot of non-reporting', then doesn't it suggest that silver is also a fiat of sorts, and therefore is subject to the same dangers and problems that we're trying to get away from by buying PMs in the first place?

>>19629483
So then, the purpose of diversifying in PMs is to have spending power, not transfer from silver to gold when the ratio is favorable. Is that right?

>>19629505
Okay. Thanks re: dyor. Is there evidence about price manipulation from JPM? If so, why haven't they been, I don't know, brought under investigation by someone? (I know, naive question, but I don't know how else to word it). Also you aren't hoping for silver to 'run out', you're hoping that the shell game stops. Basically like you said, everyone owes everyone and just prays that the system keeps running smoothly so nobody notices. Wuflu was a hiccup, and we saw COMEX scrounging high and low to field requests for physical delivery. Another plus for silver (which is wildly speculative) is that it would be a strategic choice for the USA if it introduced a federal crypto, backed in PM. Gold has been allegedly hoarded by China, Russia, and BRICs countries, so why compete with their metal. Your neighbors in Latin America are full of silver anyway, so go with that.

And your fear about when to sell is the same as you'd deal with in any asset or investment. Set a cap right now in your head about what your cashing out point is, and where you'd reinvest in undervalued assets.

Okay..that makes sense. Mexico has a lot of silver, right? At least they did when I was a kid. But why would other countries backed by gold be happy trading with a conglomerate that chose to be backed by silver? Wouldn't either side try to force the other into using their own standard? No one wins in that scenario except the gold-backed, because it's historically more valuable, right? So USA and Mexico lose in that scenario. Something seems off.

Your final point makes sense, I'll keep it in mind.

You could forbid people from trading with your rivals, but honestly we'd eventually end up with a foreign exchange rate pretty quick. The biggest issue to me would be trust though. China is probably the least trustworthy nation on earth to let run your currency system, and I say that as a citizen of the country that refuses audits of Ft. Knox. Anyone setting up a PM backed system again would need to have outstanding optics and a buy in. Constant audits of national and bank PM vaults, checking to see if the bullion was real by independent labs, and (the one China would never agree to) a guarantee of non-fuckery. If you're going to have blockchain money for the general population, the fact is you're not going to be anonymous in the sense that your bank teller knows who you are. But randomly having your account zeroed because you post winnie the pooh memes is not going to make foreign investors trust your new money, even if it is literal digital gold.

I used to save copper pennies and my advice is this, if you really want to hold alot of value, anything comparable to silver and gold your gonna need a shit ton of space, I believe about $50 in pennies filled and entire shoe box that probably weighed like ~50-60 Lbs if I remember, and even that isn't much value held in copper, not to steer you away from it, at the end of the day your still saving value and it can be fun to get a bag of pennies from the bank and search through them, also, I would say save wheat pennies seperately, rolls of those can go for like $3-5 depending on who you sell them to, if your looking for valuable dates keep an eye out for 1931-S and anything pre 1911, that's about the only thing potentially worth going out of your way to find individually I'd say

I know perfectly well actually. Over the years i learned how to hold my shits for a week in my sphincter. After 5-6 days they are rock hard, and the diameter and size of a big monster can. That's when the fun begin. Your body do all what's physically possible to get rid of this giant shit, but with trained anal muscles, you can get it right back in, over and over, stimulating your prostate on the way back. I play with my shit this way as long as i physically can, then when it's not possible to hodl it any longer, i flush it away in the toilets in a last mega shit orgasm.

It's sort of my "tradition" to buy at least 1 BU and 1 MS70 panda of the current year before they dry up (and carry even more of a premium.)
They're usually around $30-35 right now for BU depending on where you look. Graded ones can be $60 or more. The pandas are more of a novelty for me/"my thing" which is why I dont mind spending more.
I'd be fried out of my mind if I suggested stacking them. They're almost never "worth it" in that aspect unless you plan on amassing a collection of as many different years/designs and saving them for decades.

Adding onto what Anon at >>19629940 says here:

Silver wartime nickels will have a large mint mark above the dome of Monticello
(and Philadelphia will have a P on it). No big mark, no silver. Mint put them on these nickels with the intent of recalling them later, but never did.

Also, be careful with pennies Dated 1982. Eight (though one is an 'error') varieties exist, and were minted both in copper and zinc that year. Best way to tell is to flip one and listen to the sound it makes. Zinc cents will have a dead sound to them, and copper ones will ring clearly. Can also weigh them (2.5g zinc vs. 3.1 copper).

If you're going to hunt boxes of pennies, look for a list of key (and semi-key) dates to keep with you as you search.

Any coins with stamped FV(ASEs are 1$, Gold eagles come in 5,10,25 i think etc), are exempt from CGT because they are technically just currency. You wouldn't pay tax on exchanging dollars for other dollars, so it is treated the same.

Other countries also have tax advantages for their soveirgn coins, I think maplesdont pay CGT(or VAT?? idk im a burger), in canada

On regular bullion(generics, bars, basically any silver that is not stamped with a US FV) are charged 30%(??) on any profits made.

because there are only a few asset classes not denominated in USD. Even foreign stonks are tied to the USD since it is the reserve currency. Your only options to leave the USD is Precious Metals and Crypto

However, this is the first real bear market for crypto to prove itself. Pms are historically a store of value, thats why i'm 70% PMs, 30% Crypto.

As much as I would love to be 100% crypto for 1000x, there is no history backing it. However, I'm bound to ride the safe moon mission on silver/gold

this.
also, the dollar system as it is today will inevitably collapse.
it's a mathematical inevitability.
and when that happens, all financial assets will get decimated.
not just in the US but around the world, since all other currencies are tied to the dollar.

>> No.19640132

Multiple reasons.

First, silver is inexpensive right now. Makes it easy for even us poorfags to get in on a store of wealth.
Conversely, gold is much harder for a low-earning wagie to get. You'd have to save the fiat back for longer periods of time.
Gold is the goal, but silver stores wealth pretty well itself.

Second, yes, there's a bit of speculation that the gold-to-silver ratio will go back to more historic levels, and that stacked silver can be 'exchanged' for gold.

Finally, even if silver did moon and the GSR correct, you'd want to keep some silver anyway, just as diversification.

Myself, I buy silver as a hedge against a USD collapse when I get Constitutional, and as a store of value when I pick up bullion. I'd like to catch the GSR correction as well, but I also understand that I wouldn't be able to get much gold even if it did happen.
