I keep seeing that Citigroup article getting thrown around, talking about how people need to get their money out of the market while prices are high, and before the "real pain sets in" or whatever. They're saying the market it pricing in a V shaped recovery, but honestly I think that's retarded logic. Anyone that's been paying attention knows it's probably not going to be a V, but it's surely going to end up in the green just like every other time. Might not be in 6 months but everyone who sold when things got scary in the past missed out big in the long term

There are two forces competing against each other right now. Ignore all the zoomer permabear doom and boomer permabull jew service.
For money to go out of equities it'd have to find somewhere else to go. Currently there is both massive money printing and stimulus in almost every major economy on the planet. Historically, as happened after 2008, we had mostly the former and it got dumped into the "bull run" of 2008-2020. Now we had a taste of various flavors of infinite QE everywhere PLUS stimulus with the goal of stopping deflation with inflation. TINA is the queen bitch of the bull market. Notice nothing about the actual economy matters for this.
The actual bear thesis is that corporate profits were wildly mismatched with the market since 2018 which historically has always lead to "corrections" or "rebalancing". Now they are worse, but this thesis has never encountered MMT before. The market is stupid top heavy at the moment so even a rebalancing out of huge caps would look like a "crash" since all the major indices are so tied up into it.

REITs make money with interest rate arbitrage. Sure, all their acquisitions are cheap right now, but thin spreads and defaults can kill a highly leveraged REIT. In these cycles, REITs with poor risk management tend to get killed off, and a new batch arises from ashes post-crisis. I think cREITs are mostly bad investment this year, but sure, if you can manage to pick only the mREITs and hREITs that aren't over-leveraged & don't fail, you will be in a good place 18 months from now.

Any easy picks I can throw $500.00 at and feel safe? Mostly have been buying REIT's on account of business re-openings.
$NNN is doing really great for me today, I got in around $28.00.
What is something I can just buy and forget? Mutual funds? I have been looking for an investment vehicle that I can just park money in for right now (in college) and not have to worry about it while making maybe 10% a year untaxed?
I am making my own thread, I just want to set and forget the money I am making in college and try my hand at swing trading when I know what I am doing better. But, I don't want to learn active investing right now.

>kek. The first part of your post is right, but the middle and ending aren't. Institutions are in due to regulations and requirements or other motivations (Q3 earnings prep for many financials), not necessarily because they want to be there.
Q2 earnings may hit rock bottom but I think a lot of people are optimistic on Q3. We've also hit the bottom of unemployment which means that we'll see new hirings soon from companies that are reopening. Also airlines might recover from this so Buffett is not really thinking well on this one.

>The TINA argument is a cointoss, and I think it's off base unless Warren Buffet is actually braindead and George Soros is actually out of touch.
Q2 earnings report could still show a recovery despite everything closed down. Meanwhile, Buffett and Soros aren't doing anything, they have their slaves to do all the accounting. They're feeding insider info but that doesn't always mean that the info is correct. The strings are attached but not to the group they think they're controlling.

And by the way, you are still a retard AND a faggot.

All the while the dips have come and gone and you're just sitting there with your depreciating asset (cash).

it has to do with the global economy. canada and europe are printing stimulus much faster than the USA. if the dollar is weakening against other currencies... I don't know. It's really just disconcerting all around.

>Q2 earnings may hit rock bottom but I think a lot of people are optimistic on Q3
They are, and you're right, i think. I'm suspecting that financials are cooking up Q3 numbers to look good and that's part of the push up in prices. What happens after those earnings, I'm not sure. Either way, a lot of the pushing doesn't have much to do with retail.
>We've also hit the bottom of unemployment
We're yet to see, but unemployment is a leading indicator due to the nature of the shutdown. Upon reopening, we might see more layoffs or a stable flow in and out of unemployment (U6, not U1 and U2) due to actual slowdown - the typical lagging indication for unemployment.
>Q2 earnings report could still show a recovery despite everything closed down

I'm reading the article now and I already see flawed logic because A) you need a windfall of money for his example to even work under very specific conditions B) the time lapse is only 1 year (lol) C) it's failing to take into account the daily ups and downs. The stock market is a drama queen and little things can send it down for a day but then up for 3 and vice versa. We don't know how long the lows or the highs will last. DCA allows us to take the guess work out which we will probably get wrong anyway. Time in the market beats timing the market and id rather someone get their money to work than let it just set around where it will be tempting to spend it on dumb shit.

V.S that same 100 won't get you VTI ETF so it sits in your account till you toss another 100 into it. Then when you finally buy VTI you end up with some left over cash cause 1 share of VTI don't cost $200. Meanwhile while your waiting the market is moving up/down costing you gains. Cause during dips that $100 would buy you more thus on upswings you'd get more gains.

Mutual funds and etfs are essentially the same thing, collections of assets/equities. ETF's have the flexibility of being bought and sold at any time on the exchange during market hours. Mutual funds otoh are actively managed, have higher expenses and higher minimum purchase requirements. By "yeild" he is probably referring to both the growth of the equities and the dividends reinvested into the fund (DRIP).
The consistent 10%+ is true for most broad ETFs in the last 5 years as well, but the exception (market crash) applies to both etfs and mutual funds.

To "DCA" properly you have to pick a time horizon. That is timing the market. For a bull market it makes no sense for precisely as that article notes. It's just that people usually can't or won't be able to put more than a set amount every month but that is not for DCA purposes.
For a crash, it will win every time. You do not know the extent of the dip or of the recovery. However it is much easier (though still difficult and prone to error) to have seen the dip pass you rather than predict the bottom.

Dump $6k into your account but make $10 trades repeatedly. After no less than a week and hopefully at least 100 trades, evaluate your win rate and your profit when winning vs loss when losing. Use these stats to assess your average return and compute acceptable risk based on this. From there, increase your position slightly and reevaluate until you reach your risk goal.
Also consider opening a paper trading account (almost all brokers have one) that allows you to try trading using fake money. It's not quite the same things because it doesn't account for things like slippage and delays, though many brokers simulate these mechanisms, and it'll get your feet wet.
