Questionable performance of those seals had been identified before the incident but not fixed. Shuttle was launched below recommended minimum ambient temperature. O-ring seals in the configuration they had do not work as well in cold temps. NASA tried to do a coverup afterwards. It was quite the legal circus with government inquests and the whole bit. Modern SRBs do not have this vulnerability but there are still strict guidelines about suitable launch weather for a thousand other reasons.

At 3:50-4:00 PM, buy the next closest OTM call with the next closest DTE. For example today it would be a 304 call 5/26.

The next morning, sell your call if it's the slightest bit green.

The market manipulation seems to happen in the after-hours/futures/pre-market.

By doing this you avoid PTD because you bought at close and sold at open, but you get the benefit of all the volume that only happens at open/close.
