im thinking i might do it. what other strategy can potential make 1.5mil in 10 years? I cant do that day trading, id much sooner blow up multiple accounts.

the way i see it is that the indexes for these etfs are likely to continue improving over time as they have in the past, that is all that is required.

I think the trends would continue simply because of the nature of the world, unless there is a nuclear war or something horrific, why wouldnt tech continuously improve year on year?

My point is that that isn't really diversifying and most of that is already encapsulated in TQQQ given its breadth. It might be nice to give a small sliver (~5-10%) to something anti-correlated to the market as well like TMF. The 90/10 stock/bond split has been empirically found over and over again to give slightly better returns on average over 100 stocks. It could also be something to ease into when interest seem like they are going down.
But these are nitpicky, I intend to do something very similar myself.

If there's any argument, it would be that by the nature of the indexes, they should grow nominally with inflation at a minimum. Additionally, the low rate environment that will continue for many years will continue allowing value to consolidate toward the companies in the indexes. good luck fren

I think the logic is not so much "previous performance is a guarantee of future success" so much as it is that these are the only sectors that will likely see any significant movement going forward. And if this is the wrong move then stocks in general were probably the wrong move.
Just glance at the major indexes over the past few years and you can see that transportation, industry, infrastructure, energy, utilities, etc. have barely moved in almost 2 decades. Financial sector has been eating it since 2008 and that will likely continue going forward.
The only sectors perhaps with any promise in the future are healthcare, aerospace (decades out), and AI (maybe a decade out).

I sure hope you're right, but be aware the last 10 years have been (while not a complete anomaly) very bullish. There's a lot of unprecedented stuff happening macro-wise right now, DXY is pretty high and threatening to go higher if international currencies react poorly to fed printing, stocks of all types (especially big tech) are wildly disconnected from predicted future earnings, total market cap of the indices is like 140% GDP even after the crash, rates are at 0, there's a lot of spooky stuff saying we could be in an asset bubble. Fed money printing in 2008 went into equities which is partly what gave them the confidence to go infinite with it this time because they think (and its only a hunch) that the inflation would not hit the general economy.
TINA is the real bitch here. What or where the hell else would you put your assets? Precious metals or bitcoin are really banking against economic collapse at some level and I doubt any asset allocation would have mattered at that point. You'd be better off making yourself a shelter deep in the woods rather than bank on something like the economy collapsing but only temporarily so you can "cash in" your gold afterwards.

If high unemployment, repressed consumer sentiment, and decreased spending are here for a while, I think the deflationary pressure will be too large for the (current) stimulus to result in hyperinflation. The more I think about it, the more I worry over how strict the Fed will actually be with their no negative rates policy, or if they will eventually cave. The long term problem is exactly as you pointed out, but a short term deflationary spiral might call for even more unprecedented action. It will be interesting to see how it plays out. I guess bonds will let us know where things are headed.

Short term goal - have 30,000 stuffed in the bank by age 40 (3 years away). 401 is well established & fat. Brokerage account is established and in process of becoming fat. Zero debt other than the house. Already got 17,000 of the 30,000. Enter the virus. Watch oil stocks fall 50% or more. I strike. Wait for KOS to rebound to 5 a share. I hit my 30,000 goal 3 years sooner.

I have state pension from wagecucking, as well as a deferred compensation plan. What I used to spend at the bar goes into RH. It's just play money, but I make safe plays and take small gains when I can.
I won't be rich, but I have zero debt and I'll be able to pay cash when it's time to buy a house outside of the city. People with 50k in credit card debt, student loans, new car payments... It doesn't make any fucking sense to me.

The first catch is that when putting in an order, just like putting in a stock order. someone has to be on the other side of the trade. You can put an order for any ridiculous price that you want, but nobody is going to take the trade if it is too unreasonable.

The second catch is that you are still gambling on what the price of the stock will be in the future. If you agree to buy for $1 (and you paid $1.40/share for the option = $2.40 total share price) and the share price drops to $2.00, you are actually losing $0.40 per share compared to having just bought the stock at market value on the closing date.

KOS gang here. I bought at 1.40. I set a limit buy about .15-.20 cents down from open to grab some more at the daily dip, and I set a large limit buy each day to catch a major dip. I'll probably keep doing that up to 2.50, 2.75 and then I'll HODL. Hoping we go to $7 or $8 but I will be happy to sell for less when the time comes. I'm prepared to take a modest gain but I'm hoping to make a few thousand dollars. Okay, so here's the thing: If you had a real broker you'd see the bid/ask on the option. That 1.4 price will never get a fill because it's an instant arbitrage opportunity and HFTs would have taken advantage of it way before you'd have even noticed. The actual prices for that contract are 1.00 bid/2.39 ask.

But it depends on the index you're watching. I don't have any faith in the S&P or the NDX though, there's so many companies that simply aren't performing alongside the small handful that are towing everything up. It depends on how much upside the market is pricing in to the assets that have towed up the market. Like how much higher can, let's say, AMZN go? And how many people are going to jump ship and how fast when that top gets rejected? And how much of the rest of the S&P for example, is going to follow it, and how closely?

But now you've really got a load of variables piling atop of this. CoV resurgence. Political pressures from all sides and totally unpredictable at that. Unprecedented monetary policies. Oil is 8% of US GDP, and it's actually difficult to ascertain precisely what's going to happen in that space in both short and long timeframes. And the trade war.

Valuations are absurdly high at the moment as well. Maybe the market has evolved and you can securely trade a company at 20x but I have a lot of issue placing faith into contrivances like that. And many large players have voiced concerns kin to that.

EM performance is also going to be a big consideration going forward, I'd argue, just on the basis of interconnectivity for what is essentially modern staples - mostly just cheap labor translating into affordable products for DMs. The big effector will be their debt burden, both national and commercial entities and how they handle it going forward with the supply and demand disruption.

Current gen nuclear is already tremendously safe, yet it's nearly impossible to get new plants built in most places and the cost of doing so is so high that they get beaten by other forms of energy, even renewables. Nothing will change with next-gen and the anti-nuclear lobby isn't going away. This is all while solar and wind prices are still rapidly falling, along with energy storage which is set to be dirt cheap as vehicle to grid technology starts being incorporated into virtual power plants. The average Tesla vehicle has the equivalent of five power walls worth of energy storage and serious battery degradation is no longer a concern.

/smg/ is going to miss the boat because 'renewable power bad', as they spew refuted talking points from oil and gas shills, just like the missed the boat on TSLA because most people here refused to do any research and just repeated the claims of short sellers.

It applies to all debt, the only exception is maybe a a mortgage. You don't need to pay it off in one lump sum, but if you have money to "invest" then you should "invest" it into your loan. Loans are basically negative investments that earn -20% per year. Imagine earnings 20% more per year by not paying it to someone else.

Yep sometimes timing can work in your favor. The owners spent a lot redoing the whole upper level. They fucked up when they moved in to redo the basement. They fucked the electrical. Among other things. The other things didn't really bother me; actually it helped me. Cause all I was gonna use the basement for was for storage and utility room. So I didn't care that it was unfinished (or part gutted at the time I bought it). Supposedly they were gonna make it into some fancy movie entertainment room.

That is such a retarded point, the land needed to power the US off only solar is less than a half of a percent of the total land area and it could be done just using solar on rooftops.

Only cost per kWH matters so let's not pretend you have any idea of what you're talking about and that you're not just grasping at straws.

Yes. Wind power is one of the cheapest forms of energy even when you include maintenance costs. It's cheaper than both nuclear and coal. Solar is cheaper than all types of natural gas.

It gets backlash because locations are corporations choices. Everyone blaming the loss of near houses value more than the natural integrity.
It would change (house value loss) if it was backed by state laws. Like “every town must have a wind turbine a an underground thermal plant”.

I can do you one better, there are wind turbines all over the place where I live, they sell energy to the grid for a price below the non-renewable sources. If the Danes have to pay more money when it's not windy, they have a problem with their peaker plants or energy storage systems.
