Heres the results of my covered calls this week
500 HPE at $9.74 = $4872, sold $261 in calls, result -0.5% (still holding all shares)
300 HPQ at $17.39 = $5218, sold $168 in calls, result +1% (still holding, selling more calls next weeks for earnings)
200 FL at $27.50 = $5500, sold $532 in calls, result +2.4% (assigned)
Hard to believe HPE dropped 12% today, but I still broke even and it will bounce next. lmaoing at all the losers who bought options. Basically made 2% a with no worrying. Last week was even better when I did DKNG and made 8.5% (assigned). Next week Im thinking NTNX or JWN.

I'm not surprised. They'll have a broader understanding of macro trends, so are likely hedging in other assets or bought in late March and sold off throughout the past month. The past month really has been a prefect time to derisk, giving plenty of opportunities as an institutional or MM, even retail, to unwind short term trades or unfortunate long positions that got caught in the cross-fire of March liquidations and have somewhat rebounded since. The daily volume the past month shows the lack of broader participation quite clearly.

Pretty sure the trend is continuing to wait. We have to watch CA, NYC, TX, and Washington. There's nothing else that can be done. Big time zones are going to be September & Q3 earnings - ending of cares money + supposed "back to normal." Q2 vs. Q1 will determine exactly how risky equities and bonds are till '21 and' 22. Reopenings will determine risk profile for gov and muni bonds as well as downward pressure from taxes.

Yeah. There's too much forward uncertainty, and when a lot of it is resolved, there are many paths that lead to extended downside risk. I think we'll begin to see CV confirmed cases increase throughout June, though, which itself will be a catalyst for potential downside if it begins to accelerate too quickly. The markets are currently pricing in a lack of future quarantines, enthusiastic hope for a vaccine (frankly the least likely positive catalyst to occur before 2021, if at all), and a sharp rebound in consumer sentiment, PCE, discretionary spending, and other economic drivers. If we take the data coming out of China as any clue, yes, manufacturing saw a rebound, but other drivers for a consumer-driven services-based economy did not. I don't think the markets are fully appreciative of what that looks like just yet. The same can be said for how terrible Q2 will be, and the fact that we lack forward guidance for the remainder of the year. To say that the prices for certain sectors and indices are lofty, given the macro environment we're most probably moving into, is being kind. And that doesn't even begin to take into account the second order effects of sustained unemployment, inadequate credit to small and medium businesses, and thus business failure, individual defaults, foreclosures and the like and the associated losses passed on to creditors, etc.

There are a lot of things that all have to go right simultaneously to sustain an extended rebound. There are only a few things that need to go wrong, in any order, to introduce substantially more downside risk. That's all on top of being an election year.

It's really hard to argue against this imo. The only thing that I think could offset some of this is just more fiscal stimulus and hopefully a sustainment or reduction in viral cases. I wonder if there are any corollaries in past unemployment data where the restaurant and retail sector got obliterated. The market obviously thinks that many of these people will be getting their jobs back which may be right to be frank. This is my personal experience but i haven't seen to many places around me seem to go out of business yet.. hopefully this reopening works.

The problem with fiscal stimulus is that it's insufficient, inefficient in how it's handled and in getting to where it needs to be, and it doesn't solve the issue of repressed consumer sentiment and declines in consumer spending and associated habits that fuel the US' economy. Look at any of the data thus far, and, on average, you'll see around 10% of businesses have managed to get PPP loans. Many do not have the funds to last a two month downturn similar to what we just went through. Many that have already temporarily shuttered are considering permanently closing if the prospects of them staying open are not financially viable. This will have knock-on effects for (un)employment, which we already know sectors hit hardest have begun to cut staff ASAP as-is. Look at airlines, who are going to be letting go of employees the very next day the CARES act allows them to so as to be able to take advantage of the grant-aspect of the loans. Companies are also asking for "volunteers to retire early," etc.

Unfortunately, the downturn we're in is unprecedented except for, perhaps, the Great Depression. 25% unemployment is the expected peak sometime in the next two quarters, with sustained unemployment of 10% for at least the next two years. Don't forget that recessions take one or two years to unfold, not one or two months. If all of this comes to head ON TOP of the lingering effects of CV, which will likely stay with us until next year, if not grow in magnitude over the coming months, markets could be in for a lot of pain.

Shekelstein and Toilberg want you to have a poor return because it means you'll still be forced to work for their companies until you're of retirement age and useless to them. Pure dividend investing is for retirees, not 20 year olds with a few thousand dollars. There is no good reason to suffer a subpar return when you have tons capital flowing in to counter the increased risk of other forms of investing.

Its totally fine, nothing wrong with it. I am just hunting for higher premiums by looking at what companies have upcoming earnings. Takes a few hours to find earnings, filter by certain parameters (like weekly options and decent market cap), and review the options, and "run the numbers" on what seems like the greatest premium for the least risk.

My disagreement is with the constant support of dividend investing in these threads, it's misleading the impressible newfags who will try to do it with their few thousand dollar accounts and there is no point to that. It should only be considered by those with six figures in capital, which through dividend investing would be roughly equal to the return needed to finance a one bedroom shitbox.

There is nothing wrong with living modestly if it means you don't have to work for someone else. That's actually my goal right now, to grow my account to the point where my return in index ETFs would be equal to what welfare gives out in my country so that I will always have a safety net. I'm almost there.

There's a noticeable amount of capital waiting in the wings, but the current price levels amidst the uncertainty we find ourselves in are not appealing.

Any of the peaks we've had were/are a good time to take profits for short term trades. The rally has been running out of steam for the past month. Relying on positive catalysts for a few extra % isn't really worth the risk at this stage. We're at a point of very limited near-term upside, and even if there's a positive change in upward momentum, it would be easy to buy back in.

They can screw people outta jobs with ease now. Cause so many people in the pool. v.s before they really had to work it cause "body" shortage. They couldn't screw it up then cause they had to fill the slot. The irony; that degree after you land your first job, it winds up in a box or where ever never needed or seen again till you move or die. And you spent 4 years and how many thousands of dollars for it. The other irony; most jobs all you need is common sense and can read/write/spell and use a computer and show up on time. Doing even simple math is not really a needed thing anymore thanks to calculators built into damn near everything now.

MSFT has a dividend of 1% a year. MA 0.54%.

I see very few good stocks with good to great growth potential that have dividend over 2%. Equal to a single premium of a covered call.
Especially in tech.

Im actually interested in what good large cap stocks you invest that provide growth AND a 5-7% divvy yield.
The stocks I see in that category have huge problems, no potential or are in other ways unsuitable.
Even KO only gives 3%. Even failing stuff like KHC stays at 4%.

It depends, you have a lot of options with various levels of risk. The easiest thing you could do is build a portfolio of index ETFs and just let it grow. That would beat the performance of whatever dividend portfolio and it would have similar amount of risk, even less if you add in bond ETFs. It would hopefully return around 7% annually since that is the historical performance of the major indices.

If that isn't high enough return for you and you're willing to take on more risk, what you would choose to do is the million dollar question here and it's easy to get over your head and lose money. Whatever you do, don't take the word of anyone in this thread and try to copy their trades, that's the worst thing you can do and it would only be a matter of time until you got burned.

There should be no situation where you need draw money from your investment account outside of retirement, you should have an emergency fund for that. This is the problem with dividend investing and why they are not your fren, you are trading cash flow for worse performance, giving you the illusion of better profit but that isn't the case. The argument was never that you should take the profit from dividends from your account and use it for other investments, it was instead implied that they were more profitable than the alternative. Even if you are frequently withdrawing cash from your investment account, most of the time you would still come out ahead with a non-dividend portfolio over a year period, and over a longer period it's almost a guarantee. A one or two percent difference in performance is huge.

Anons should look into CLSN,

They are about to report results in july about a phase 3 chemotherapy treatment to cure the most common liver Cancer. The treatment is called thermodox. Do your DD over the weekend into this and you will be rewarded 5 weeks from now.

It could be up to 12$ by the time the p3 july results are reported. If the trial is successful then this stock will likely become worth what it used to be at 300$+. If this works out this could be a retirement stock for you.

I have 5 ITM calls already and plan to buy more.

There's nothing wrong with bag holding something like an S&P index ETF, but if you're doing it with a meme stock, there's an opportunity cost and it's poor money management. If you're going to hold bags, they should have a great risk/reward ratio, don't just hold them because 'tee hee, it's not a real loss until I sell'. That said, most people in this thread would just buy equally bad stocks if they cut their losses but they shouldn't be actively trading anyway.

This is before thinking about the reinvestment of the dividend income. After just 5 years you will be making around $4.80 a day. I have rounded down as well so it will really be a little more. Imagine somebody buying you a free coffee for life. That is what 5 years of saving will net you. Now imagine 20 years of this. You will end up with about 20 dollars a day just for being a divvy chad. >If all of this comes to head ON TOP of the lingering effects of CV, which will likely stay with us until next year, if not grow in magnitude over the coming months, markets could be in for a lot of pain.
Let's also make note of the state and local government budgets, which will drive openings to be much faster and riskier than necessary. Not only is consumer confidence unlikely to spike back to levels that support revenues that prevent bankruptcy for the businesses, but too much activity will end up necessitating federal intervention to shut things back down. I guess we should also be watching OH and MI for this too. The longer term effect of draining the muni and state funds will be a strong downward pressure on consumer confidence and spending. Pensions are on the chopping block again, possibly more now than they were in '18 and '19, and we're likely going to see aggressive changes in tax policy or a large reduction in state services since no one has money to purchase stressed muni's except for banks and the FED. The differences between municipalities and states will likely be somewhat exacerbated moving forward. Maybe it's a good idea to be a rentcuck for the time being.

>inb4 some shithead says "nothingvirus"
we have enough data from abroad to support that an aggressive reopening will very likely be followed by a surge in ICU admissions that will overwhelm a health system unless it's in a sparsely populated area that can benefit from the new mobile/coordinated health infrastructure. That said, for the n-teenth time, this has nothing to do with a virus, so much as it has to do with an over-leveraged economy.

People have a STRONG desire to return to normal, but there is also a great deal of risk aversion. No one wants any lawsuits from opening their schools or businesses. So I do see it as a possibility that consumer demand does bounce back. I don’t see it as a likelihood that there will be any federal shutdowns, especially since there were never any federally mandated shutdowns in the first place.

The sensible thing is to assume people are going to be reckless and irresponsible and get infected at high rates. Which means the downside surprise is the one everyone is bracing for, while the upside surprise is something we’re completely unprepared for. Very few people think things are going to go well, so what happens if they’re better than expected?

Opinions on the BYND stock?

Zoomers love going vegan and "sustainability". Increasing, so does the stock market

>I do see it as a possibility that consumer demand does bounce back
I am not sure that the consumer demand will be great enough to support businesses through their obligations. Yes we have the Main St. loans, PPP, CARES, etc. supporting businesses and spending, but there will still be a drop in aggregate revenues which will disproportionately affect certain sectors and, based on our current debt/credit environment, a failure to return to nearly full throttle activity will probably force many businesses to fold. Yes, we definitely want to trim the fat, but I don't see it being likely to be just fat trimming. margins are just far too tight.
>there were never any federally mandated shutdowns in the first place
You're right do doubt federal intervention, but I'm thinking it's much more on the table than something like the Dark Financial Arts. I'd still keep eyes on OH and MI in addition to CA and TX.

>Very few people think things are going to go well, so what happens if they’re better than expected?
we resume the debt bubble which is literally just clack-posting for another.. year or two? The expenses are growing because of the unsustainable models affecting business operators. shit like commercial rentals need to get absolutely anally obliterated because the rent obligations are far too high to support profitable businesses. The costs of living are too high, wages are too low, credit is too loose. The economic stresses from 2016 to 2020 will tighten until the system can't profit enough from additional debt.

also, enjoy. it's my favorite semen demon.

High volatility. Good meme fuel for pumps. I have no opinion on the product other than the fact that it bothers me fast food outfits offering it charge more for it than they do for real beef/pork. That's the case for A&W anyway, not sure about others.

Plan for the worst, hope for the best. At least if things all simultaneously go better than expected (huge ask), we might see less volatility.

Anon worked as a NEET unlike his father and his gran,
A'working in a basement jacking to boat stocks and 2D girls from Japan.
One day Anon was hard, the Jew appeared right from hell.
He held a roll of gloom and a bucket full of sell.
The Jew said unto Anon, "TAKE THESE SELLS AND GOYISH GLOOM,
BUT YOU ALSO TAKE THESE LOSSES, AND I WILL TAKE THE BOOM."
Anon despised the Jew, and the Jew squealed and hissed,
and the Anon knew too well the tankers were too good to resist.

This whole situation has returned me to my 14 year old Austrian-Libertarian phase pretty quick, it's a little disturbing. I just can't fathom how we're gonna get out of a 2008-esque situation (though kind of in reverse as this will be driven by economics on the ground rather than high financial fuckups)
